Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of ranibizumab alone versus ranibizumab with targeted retinal laser for branch retinal vein occlusion with macular edema.
To determine the effect of ultra-widefield fluorescein angiography (UWFFA)-guided targeted retinal photocoagulation (TRP) in branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) with macular edema after intravitreal Ranibizumab (RBZ). ⋯ UWFFA-guided TRP reduced the number of injections of Ranibizumab in patients having BRVO with macular edema, while maintaining similar benefits in the improvement of BCVA, central subfoveal thickness without deleterious effect on the visual field, and contrast sensitivity.

Randomized Controlled TrialRetrobulbar dexmedetomidine in pediatric vitreoretinal surgery eliminates the need for intraoperative fentanyl and postoperative analgesia: A randomized controlled study.
This study evaluated the efficacy of retrobulbar ropivacaine plus dexmedetomidine compared with systemic fentanyl in pediatric vitreoretinal (VR) surgery. ⋯ Retrobulbar dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to ropivacaine is a safe and effective alternative to systemic fentanyl. This regimen provides better pain management, hemodynamic stability, and stress response suppression in pediatric VR surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of dexmedetomidine for retrobulbar anesthesia in orbital ball implants after enucleation surgery.
Dexmedetomidine (DEX) can prolong the duration of local anesthetics, but the use of retrobulbar DEX has not been fully elucidated. This study was designed to determine the effects of adding DEX to lidocaine-bupivacaine for retrobulbar block in orbital ball implants after enucleation surgery. ⋯ Retrobulbar DEX reduces consumption of rescue analgesic, prolonged the duration of retrobulbar block, improved postoperative pain, provided better sedation effects, and increased patient and surgeon satisfaction after orbital ball implants after enucleation surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of multimedia interventions on the informed consent process for cataract surgery in rural South India.
The provision of ocular surgical interventions for poorer, less educated populations is increasing as a result of increased globalization and outreach. However, these populations still have trouble understanding surgical concepts and are not always fully informed decision makers. ⋯ Multimedia aids in addition to a standard informed consent process are effective in improving patient comprehension even for patients with low literacy and limited knowledge of surgical interventions.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe effects of melatonin on anxiety and pain scores of patients, intraocular pressure, and operating conditions during cataract surgery under topical anesthesia.
To evaluate the effects of melatonin premedication on anxiety and pain scores of patients, operating conditions, and intraocular pressure during cataract surgery under topical anesthesia. ⋯ Sublingual melatonin premedication for patients undergoing cataract surgery under topical anesthesia reduced the anxiety scores in patients and provided excellent operating conditions.
