Association of Slopes of Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate With Post-End-Stage Renal Disease Mortality in Patients With Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Transitioning to Dialysis.
To investigate the association of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) slopes before dialysis initiation with cause-specific mortality after dialysis initiation. ⋯ Rapid eGFR decline is associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and increasing eGFR is associated with higher infection-related mortality among incident dialysis cases.

High Exercise Capacity Attenuates the Risk of Early Mortality After a First Myocardial Infarction: The Henry Ford Exercise Testing (FIT) Project.
To examine the effect of objectively measured exercise capacity (EC) on early mortality (EM) after a first myocardial infarction (MI). ⋯ Higher baseline EC was independently associated with a lower risk of early death after a first MI.

Randomized Controlled Trial Pragmatic Clinical TrialCardiac Rehabilitation Program Adherence and Functional Capacity Among Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
To compare program adherence and functional capacity between women referred to supervised mixed-sex, supervised women-only, or home-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR). ⋯ Offering women alternative program models may not promote greater CR adherence or functional capacity; however, replication is warranted. Other proven strategies such as action planning and self-monitoring should be applied.

Association of Mild Cognitive Impairment With Exposure to General Anesthesia for Surgical and Nonsurgical Procedures: A Population-Based Study.
To examine whether exposure to general anesthesia for operations and procedures after the age of 40 years is associated with incident mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly patients. ⋯ We found no significant association between cumulative exposure to surgical anesthesia after 40 years of age and MCI. However, these data do not exclude the possibility that anesthetic exposures occurring later in life may be associated with an increase in the rate of incident MCI.

Determining the Importance of Meeting Muscle-Strengthening Activity Guidelines: Is the Behavior or the Outcome of the Behavior (Strength) a More Important Determinant of All-Cause Mortality?
To determine whether the behavioral participation in muscle-strengthening activity (MSA) or the strength outcome produces the largest reduction in all-cause mortality risk. ⋯ These results demonstrate that muscle strength seems to be more important than the behavioral participation in MSA for reducing the risk of premature all-cause mortality.
