Ethical health leadership: Lessons from low- and middle-income countries during COVID-19.
We adopt a holistic-micro, meso, macro-approach to health leadership ethics to examine how low- and middle-income countries have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare delivery happens within complex settings in low- and middle-income countries and high-income countries. These settings are riddled with systemic political and economic challenges which, in some instances, make it difficult for health leaders to be ethical. ⋯ Globally, countries can learn from ethical health leadership missteps that occurred during low- and middle-income countries' responses to COVID-19. We discuss the implications of problematic ethics in health leadership on managing pandemics in low- and middle-income countries, using Zimbabwe as an example. We offer suggestions on what can be done to improve ethical health leadership in response to future health crises in both high-income and low- and middle-income nations.

Clinical networks are groups of clinicians, patients, operational leaders, and other stakeholders who work together to solve health challenges, translate evidence into practice, and improve health outcomes and clinical care. Networks enable health, community, and academic partners to align their efforts, address priority issues, and advance quality improvements, health innovation, and transformational change on a local and system-wide scale. Clinical networks have existed in some countries for nearly 20 years. ⋯ There are now 16 Strategic Clinical Networks (SCNs) in Alberta, embedded within a province-wide health system. The SCNs have developed an action plan that builds on their experience and identifies common areas of focus. This article describes the SCNs, their impact to date, and the objectives, areas of focus, and processes Alberta's SCNs will use to improve health outcomes and health system performance over the next 5 years.

Clinical research is funded by industry, governments, charities, and hospitals. It is important to know the economic commitment of the various funding bodies, but until now there has been no national source available which provides these data. ⋯ There is evidence that government and charity funding of medical research is a trigger for private sector research investment; therefore, tracking all sources of funding for clinical research will provide policy-makers with an overall picture of health research funding. These data support policy decision-making related to clinical research in Canada.

Changing nursing practice: Implementation challenges of intentional rounding on three rehabilitation units.
The purpose of this article is to critically examine the process and results of a participatory action study designed to implement intentional rounding on a rehabilitation inpatient service. As a change initiative, this brief case study highlights the successes and challenges of implementing a practice intervention. Intentional rounding is a nursing intervention whereby hourly contact and support is provided to patients and families to strengthen the therapeutic relationship and proactively address their needs. ⋯ The results demonstrated small, positive changes in all indicators, but the level of rounding was lower than expected. Focus groups revealed the complexities of integrating rounding into established routines. Three factors were identified that contributed to the findings.
