Randomized Controlled Trial[Effectiveness of intercostal nerve block with ropivacaine in analgesia of patients undergoing emergency open cholecystectomy under general anesthesia].
Postoperative pain after open cholecystectomy is associated with reduced respiratory function, longer recovery period before deambulation and oral food intake, and prolonged hospital stay. Intercostal nerve block provides satisfactory analgesia and ropivacaine is the most widely used local anesthetic agent in intercostal nerve block due to its excellent effectiveness, lower cardiovascular toxicity, and longer half-life. ⋯ Intercostal nerve block reduces intraoperative inhalation anesthetic use, immediate postoperative pain, and tramadol intake as rescue analgesic agent in patients undergoing open cholecystectomy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study[Midazolam versus dexmedetomidine for sedation for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy].
The diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGI) is a safe procedure although 50% to 60% morbidity and mortality due to cardiopulmonary complications. ⋯ Midazolam and dexmedetomidine are suitable for endoscopic procedures of upper digestive tract. Dexmedetomidine offers shorter recovery time and better patient's satisfaction.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study[Postoperative pain in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy with low versus standard-pressure pneumoperitoneum. A randomized clinical trial.].
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard in the management of symptomatic gallstone disease. Postoperative abdominal and shoulder-tip pain are the main adverse side effects. ⋯ Low-pressure pneumoperitoneum significantly reduces abdominal and shoulder tip pain. Key words: pneumoperitoneum, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, postoperative pain, shoulder pain, complications, Mexico.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Usefulness of gel lidocaine in esophageal manometry].
Esophageal manometry (EM) is a functional study performed without sedation. The insertion of a catheter through nasal passages provokes the greatest discomfort as it is being performed. ⋯ Lidocaine jelly at 2% neither diminishes the discomfort provoked by the insertion of an EM catheter, nor does it make the procedure any easier.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis. A randomized clinical trial].
The Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is found in patients with gastritis and peptic ulcer approximately in up to 80 percent. The eradication rates of 80 to 90 percent are achievable with some regimens. ⋯ Eradication treatment was successful in 70% (p NS). Peptic ulcer refractory in 23% of patients and NSAID's use was inversely related to Hp eradication (p 0.05).
