Comparative Study[Comparison of intraocular pressure reduction in eyes with different intraocular tamponades after pars plana vitrectomy by 20% mannitol].
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of 20% mannitol in reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in eyes with different intraocular tamponades after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). Methods: Retrospective case-control study. Sixty-eight patients were administered with 20% mannitol and IOP was noted at regular intervals after simple PPV with ocular hypertension, including 24 males (26 eyes) and 44 females (46 eyes), aged (45.6±19.3) years. ⋯ There were significant differences between the BSS group and the silicone-oil group (q=6.44, 13.04, 15.00, 17.11, all P=0.00), and between the BSS group and the C(3)F(8) group (q=7.68, 12.56, 12.93, 13.61, all P=0.00). Conclusion: In eyes with different intraocular tamponades, 20% mannitol was useful for short-term IOP reduction after vitrectomy, especially in those with BSS within one hour. But after 75 minutes, there was no statistically significant difference between groups. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2019, 55:289-293).

[The correlation of ganglion cell layer thickness with visual field defect in non-functional pituitary adenoma with chiasm compression].
Objective: To investigate the consequences of the thickness of ganglion cell layer (GCL) and visual field defect of non-functional pituitary adenoma with chiasm compression. Methods: A case control study. The study included 40 (80 eyes) non-functional pituitary adenoma patients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from March 2015 to February 2017. ⋯ The GCIPL thickness was thinner in the nasal quadrant in the visual field defect group than in the control group (t=3.95, 4.20, both P<0.01). Only in the Superior nasal quadrant, the GCIPL was significantly thinner in the no visual field defect group than the control group (t=3.25, P<0.01). Conclusion: The optic GCL may get thinner in pituitary nonfunctional adenoma with chiasm compression patients without the RNFL layer thinning and visual field defect. [Analysis on ophthalmic human resource allocation and service delivery at county level in Mainland China in 2014].
Objective: To master the status of ophthalmic human resource allocation and service delivery at county level in Mainland China, and to provide the basis for strengthening the construction of grassroots ophthalmic personnel team and formulating feasible medium and long-term eye health plans. Methods: All the medical institutions that provided ophthalmic service at county level or above were investigated by online reporting. This study only included medical institutions at county level. ⋯ The structure of ophthalmic nursing staff is irrational. The full-time optometrists and opticians are extremely scarce. It is necessary to cultivate high-quality ophthalmic health personnel and improve beds rate of utilization at county level. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2018, 54:929-934).

[Correlation between ultrasonographic optic nerve sheath diameter and intracranial pressure].
Objective: To evaluate the association of the ultrasonographic optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and intracranial pressure (ICP), and the feasibility of ultrasonographic ONSD in predicting high ICP. Methods: A prospective study. The outpatients who planned to measure ICP by lumbar puncture in Department of Neurology, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University were selected from January 2011 to May 2012. ⋯ Conclusions: There is a significantly positive correlation between ICP and postbulbar ONSD measured by ultrasound. This non-invasive method may be an alternative approach to predicting the ICP value of patients whose ICP measurement via lumbar puncture is at high risk. However, it can not replace the direct ICP measurement with the invasive method. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2018, 54: 683-687).

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study[Comparison of two kinds of artificial tears on the dry eye after phacoemulsification].
Objective: To compare the curative effect of two different artificial tears on dry eye after phacoemulsification. Methods: Prospective randomized controlled clinical trial. From March to June in 2012, 102 patients (102 eyes) with age-related cataract were treated with phacoemulsification at Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital University of Medical Sciences, and these eyes were randomly divided into blank group (group A ) 32 cases, treatment group 1 (group B) 35 cases and treatment group 2 (group C) 35 cases. ⋯ At 90 days after operation, the median BUT of B and C treatment groups was 9. 00, which was better than that of group A (4.00). The difference was statistically significant (H=21.51, P<0.05), There was no significant difference between group B and group C (Z=-0.34, P>0.05). Conclusion: The treatment of artificial tears with lipid composition in the early stage after phacoemulsification is beneficial to the improvement of postoperative symptoms and signs of dry eye. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2017, 53: 445-450).
