Comparative Study[Intraocular lens power calculation for high myopic eyes with cataract: comparison of three formulas].
Objective: To compare the accuracy of three different formulas for intraocular lens power calculation in high myopic eyes with cataract and analyze their influencial factors. Methods: One hundred and three high myopic patients of cataract (103 eyes), with average age of 60.2±8.8 years old (39.0-77.0), including 45 male and 54 female and with axial length ≥ 26 mm were enrolled in this retrospective case-series study. All of them underwent routine ocular examination and IOLMastermeasurement preoperatively and then underwent phacoemulsification through temporal clear-corneal incision with implantation of HumanOptic posterior chamber Intraocular lens (IOL). ⋯ The prediction error of SRK/T formula was positively correlated with axial length and corneal astigmatism (F=33.97, r=0.66, β=0.48, P<0.01 and β=0.42, P<0.01), while for Holladay and Haigis formulas, in addition to the previous two factors, the errors were also positively correlated with mean corneal curvature (Holladay 1: F=31.26, r=0.72, AXL: β=0.52, P<0.01, K: β=0.20, P<0.05 and CA: β=0.37, P<0.01; Haigis: F=30.96, r=0.72, AXL: β=0.33, P<0.01, K: β=0.40, P<0.01 and CA: β=0.37, P<0.01). Conclusions: In the selection of IOL formula for high myopic patients with cataract, Haigis or SRK/T would reduce the prediction error and serve as the more accurate formulas than Holladay 1. Haigis formula may be more accurate than SRK/T formula in case of AXL>30 mm or K≤43.00 D. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2017, 53: 260-265).

[Emphasis on the application of precision medicine in ophthalmology].
Accompany with dramatically growth of large-scale biological databases (such as human genome sequence), improvement of life science and development of international clinical trials, science offers great potential for improving health care through precision medicine. As a hot topic recently, precision medicine might launch a revolution of the methodology in medical research. ⋯ The best approach for advanced individual medicine is to buildup the digital ophthalmology, which includes human eye biobank, national biological databases network, clinical department, basic research lab, and international clinical trial center. The system of digital ophthalmology could explore the methods for ophthalmology research, integrate the source of eye biologic databases, promote international cooperation, and thus eventually supply the opportunity for translational medicine.

[MRI study of the thickness and width of the extraocular muscles in normal subjects].
To study the thickness and width of extraocular muscles by high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ The thickness and width of all the extraocular muscles follows a certain rule. Measurements of extraocular muscles using MRI should be done on coronal and oblique-coronal planes MRI scan simultaneously. The sizes of extraocular muscles can be assessed by observing the symmetry of the extraocular muscles on the two sides on coronal plane and the usual rule of extraocular muscles on oblique-coronal plane.

[The analysis of refractive error of long axial high myopic eyes after IOL implantation].
To investigate the factors that influence the postoperative refractive error in long axial high myopic eyes, and to compare the accuracy of optimized Haigis and SRK/T formulas. ⋯ AL was the main factor affecting refractive error after long-axial high myopic eye cataract surgery, followed by K. For preoperative prediction, SRK/T formula and optimized Haigis formula show no difference. In AL subgroups, optimized Haigis formula showed no significant difference in accuracy, comparing with SRK/T formula induced less refractive error in 26-28 mm group than in 30-34 mm group. There was no significant difference between SRK/T formula and optimized Haigis formulas in the K subgroups.

Incomplete perifoveal posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) associated with abnormal vitreomacular adhesion (VMA) can cause vitreomacular traction (VMT) and macular hole (MH) formation, which require vitrectomy treatment. Pharmacologic vitreolysis, which is intravitreal injection with vitreolytic enzymes to resolve VMA, may be used as an alternative therapy. Ocriplasmin, formerly known as microplasmin, is a recombinant truncated form of plasmin with proteolytic activity against fibronectin and laminin. ⋯ In comparison with the outcome after vitrectomy, the success rate of ocriplasmin was still far below expectation. Ocular adverse events included vitreous floaters, photopsia and profound visual decline. Its efficacy and safety need to be further evaluated in more clinical trials.
