Review[Environmental contamination with permanent organic pollutants and human health].
The hottest points of contamination of the environment with permanent organic pollutants, including dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) have been identified in Russia. These are located in different regions of the country where DDT, PCB, and other chlorine-containing compounds have been earlier manufactured. ⋯ The world's highest content of dioxins in breast milk and blood is noted in the dwellers of Chapayevsk and Ufa. In these towns, there are changes in the population's health, which are typical of the action of permanent organic pollutants.

Comparative Study[Environmental lead pollution in Ulan-Bator and children's health].
The paper gives data on environmental lead pollution (ambient air, snow, soil). There is a direct correlation between the blood content of lead in children living in different microdistricts of Ulan-Bator and the level of environmental lead pollution, which results in neurological diseases in children.

Review[Environmental and medical consequences of mineral oil pollution of the geological medium].
The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District (KMAD) is situated in the central part of Western Siberia and referred as to the discomfortably extreme areas equated to the Far North. The district occupies a prominent place in Russia's economy in oil and gas production and energy generation. More than 30 years' development of hydrocarbon deposits in the district has done great damage to the environment and nature. ⋯ The self-recovery and self-purification of landscapes occur very slowly in the North. The studies have established that steady raising of the production of oil and petroleum products in the KMAD results in a steady morbidity increase in all population groups. It is necessary to take timely preventive measures and better informed managerial decisions at the local and regional levels to keep unique north nature and the population's health in the North upon increasing man's exposure.

Comparative Study[Hygienic assessment of combined action of ambient air pollutions in the localities].
The paper describes the experimental studies dealing with the reflectory and resorptive effects of a gas-vapor-dust-like mixture comprising sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, and suspension particles. The combined effect of the mixture when inhaled by animals was ascertained to present as the incomplete summation effect type. In the combined presence in the ambient air, the sum of shares of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, and suspension particles should not be greater than 0.4 MPC of the isolated effect of each agent alone.

[Hygienic evaluation of the influence of environmental factors on adolescents' health in a gas-and-oil producing region].
Environmental factors in a gas-and-oil producing region were hygienically evaluated for their influence on the health of adolescents living in the towns of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District (KMAD) - Yugry. The air was found to be polluted by incomplete oil and gas combustion products from flares, by emission from emergency conditions at gas-and-oil-producing enterprises. The major ambient air pollutants were formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, and suspended solids. ⋯ The population's potential health risk associated with a water factor in all the four towns was due to the presence of manganese and silicon. Hazardous substances available in the ambient air and water, as well as natural and climatic living conditions were ascertained to influence the health of adolescents. The results of the study served as a basis for substantiation of measures to reduce pollution of ambient air and drinking water supply objects in the KMAD-Yugry and a package of measures to improve the health of adolescents.
