Review[Naturally caused imbalance of elements in the population of the Yamal Region (a review)].
The study has indicated that microelementosis in the natives and newcomers of Yamal is caused by the geochemical features of the region and supplemented by inadequate zinc intake. The region's waters differ in their hygienic standards and high levels of iron and the air is characterized by the latter's deficiency. Fe is ingested equally with water and foodstuffs while Cu and Zn are mainly with foods. The trace element status of the newcomers is considerably close to that in the natives of the North and associated with the chemical composition of the region's waters.

Review[Hygienic evaluation of water supply in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugry].
The paper considers the sources of water supply of the population of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugry. It gives data on the quality of water from the underground and surface sources. ⋯ The state of most domestic water pipes was ascertained to be poor: 35.8% of the municipal water pipes and 75.0% of the departmental ones did not meet the hygienic requirements. 52.8% of water samples failed to meet the hygienic standards in sanitary and chemical indices, and 3.7% in microbiological ones, which undoubtedly affected the population's health. There are two ways of improving the water supply of the district's population: 1) to improve purification of the whole water delivered to inhabited localities and 2) to provide the population with high-quality water to be only drunk, including that to be bottled.

Review[Environmental contamination with permanent organic pollutants and human health].
The hottest points of contamination of the environment with permanent organic pollutants, including dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) have been identified in Russia. These are located in different regions of the country where DDT, PCB, and other chlorine-containing compounds have been earlier manufactured. ⋯ The world's highest content of dioxins in breast milk and blood is noted in the dwellers of Chapayevsk and Ufa. In these towns, there are changes in the population's health, which are typical of the action of permanent organic pollutants.

Review[Environmental and medical consequences of mineral oil pollution of the geological medium].
The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District (KMAD) is situated in the central part of Western Siberia and referred as to the discomfortably extreme areas equated to the Far North. The district occupies a prominent place in Russia's economy in oil and gas production and energy generation. More than 30 years' development of hydrocarbon deposits in the district has done great damage to the environment and nature. ⋯ The self-recovery and self-purification of landscapes occur very slowly in the North. The studies have established that steady raising of the production of oil and petroleum products in the KMAD results in a steady morbidity increase in all population groups. It is necessary to take timely preventive measures and better informed managerial decisions at the local and regional levels to keep unique north nature and the population's health in the North upon increasing man's exposure.

Review[Organization of monitoring of electromagnetic radiation in the urban environment].
The authors describe new current approaches to monitoring the environment, including the sources of electromagnetic radiation and noise. Electronic maps of the area under study are shown to be made, by constructing the isolines or distributing the actual levels of controlled factors. These current approaches to electromagnetic and acoustic monitoring make it possible to automate a process of measurements, to analyze the established situation, and to simplify the risk controlling methodology.
