Infliximab Therapy for Children with Moderate to Severe Ulcerative Colitis: A Step-Up versus a Top-Down Strategy.
We aimed to investigate clinical outcomes between top-down (TD) and conventional step-up (SU) therapies in pediatric patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC). ⋯ According to our study, early use of IFX without corticosteroid treatment for children with moderate to severe UC helps to lower relapse rates. We also found that IFX was a very effective treatment for pediatric UC, with a sustained duration of remission similar between TD and SU(R) groups.

Incidence and Mortality Associated with Cardiovascular Medication among Hypertensive COVID-19 Patients in South Korea.
We aimed to investigate whether the use of cardiovascular drugs in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with hypertension as a comorbidity has a significant effect on the incidence and associated mortality rate of COVID-19. ⋯ In South Korea, beta-blockers exhibited potential benefits in lowering the incidence of COVID-19 among hypertensive patients. Furthermore, CCBs may lower the hospital mortality rate among hypertensive COVID-19 patients. These findings were also applied to the general adult population, regardless of hypertension.

Association between Plasma Osmolality and Case Fatality within 1 Year after Severe Acute Ischemic Stroke.
Plasma osmolality, a marker of dehydration, is associated with cardiovascular mortality. We aimed to investigate whether elevated plasma osmolality is associated with case fatality within 1 year after severe acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ Elevated plasma osmolality was independently associated with 3-month case fatality, but not 1-year case fatality, for severe acute ischemic stroke.

Expression of Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptides in an H-Ras 12V Transgenic Mouse Model of Spontaneous Hepatocellular Carcinoma.
Expression of organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) 1B1/1B3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) induces a paradoxical enhancement of gadoxetic acid on liver magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We examined the expression profile of OATPs with regard to tumor differentiation in a genetically modified H-Ras 12V mouse model of spontaneous HCC that undergoes multistep hepatocarcinogenesis with minimal inter-individual variation. ⋯ Our findings support those of previous clinical studies that have reported the frequent appearance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI in moderately differentiated HCC.

Downregulation of MicroRNA-495 Alleviates IL-1β Responses among Chondrocytes by Preventing SOX9 Reduction.
Our previous work demonstrated that miRNA-495 targets SOX9 to inhibit chondrogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether miRNA-495-mediated SOX9 regulation could be a novel therapeutic target for osteoarthritis (OA) using an in vitro cell culture model. ⋯ We demonstrated that inhibition of miRNA-495 alleviates IL-1β-induced inflammatory responses in chondrocytes by rescuing SOX9 expression. Accordingly, miRNA-495 could be a potential novel target for OA therapy, and the application of anti-miR-495 to chondrocytes could be a therapeutic strategy for treating OA.
