Case ReportsSelective Fascicular Involvement of the Median Nerve Trunk Causing Pseudo-Anterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome: Ultrasound and MR Imaging Features.
Fascicular involvement of the median nerve trunk in the upper arm is uncommon in cases of peripheral neuropathy, and its symptoms are consistent with those of anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) syndrome. We report three cases of focal anterior interosseous fascicular involvement in the median nerve trunk presenting as AIN palsy. Our report emphasizes the unique ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of swelling, hourglass-like constriction and torsion, and entwinement of the nerve fascicle of the dorsal region of the median nerve, which were confirmed surgically. On MRI, all patients showed denervation changes in the AIN territory, as well as in the median nerve territory, without compressing structures.

Specific IgG4 (sIgG4) increases with allergen specific immunotherapy and may reflect a state of immune tolerance in food allergy. While ImmunoCAP® has been widely used to measure sIgG4 to a single allergen, PROTIA™ Specific IgG4® has been designed as a multiplex assay for measuring sIgG4. This study sought to validate this assay in comparison to ImmunoCAP®. ⋯ PROTIA™ Specific IgG4® showed high consistency with ImmunoCAP® in measuring sIgG4. This assay is applicable to various clinical fields, including allergen immunotherapy and food allergy.

Does Early Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery Improve the Cost-Effectiveness of Renal Stone Management?
This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of treatment with retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) versus repeated shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) in patients with renal calculi. ⋯ Performing RIRS as early as possible can be recommended for eligible patients to reduce the overall failure, even if it is not as cost-effective as performing RIRS later.

Cellular Response of Ventricular-Subventricular Neural Progenitor/Stem Cells to Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Brain Injury and Their Enhanced Neurogenesis.
To elucidate the brain's intrinsic response to injury, we tracked the response of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) located in ventricular-subventricular zone (V-SVZ) to hypoxic-ischemic brain injury (HI). We also evaluated whether transduction of V-SVZ NSPCs with neurogenic factor NeuroD1 could enhance their neurogenesis in HI. ⋯ HI promotes the establishment of a substantial number of new neurons in non-neurogenic regions, suggesting intrinsic repair mechanisms of the brain, by controlling the behavior of endogenous NSPCs. The activation of NeuroD1 expression may improve the therapeutic potential of endogenous NSPCs by increasing their neuronal differentiation in HI.

The Combined Impact of Chronic Kidney Disease and Diabetes on the Risk of Colorectal Cancer Depends on Sex: A Nationwide Population-Based Study.
Although both chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) are considered factors increasing the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), their impact on CRC is not fully understood. This study was aimed to investigate the impact of CKD, DM, or both diseases on the risk of CRC and to evaluate sex differences therein. ⋯ In female, having both CKD and DM significantly increases the risk of CRC, compared with having CKD or DM alone. This study suggests a significant difference in the effect of CKD or DM on the risk of CRC according to sex.
