Retention Rates and Successful Treatment with Antiseizure Medications in Newly-Diagnosed Epilepsy Patients.
Treatment for epilepsy primarily involves antiseizure medications (ASMs), which can be characterized using the clinical data warehouse (CDW) database. In this study, we compared retention rates and time to successful treatment for various ASMs to reflect both efficacy and adverse effects in patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. ⋯ Second-generation ASMs have the advantage of more successful treatment with fewer ASM regimen changes compared with first-generation drugs. Various comorbid conditions as well as age and sex should be considered when selecting ASMs.

Evaluation of the Regulatory Required Post-Authorization Safety Study for Propacetamol: Nested Case-Control and Case-Time-Control Studies.
Following the withdrawal of propacetamol in Europe owing to safety issues, the regulatory authority of South Korea requested a post-marketing surveillance study to investigate its safety profile. ⋯ In both nested case-control and CTC analyses, propacetamol was not associated with an increased risk of anaphylaxis, thrombosis, or SJS. The findings from this study, which used routinely collected clinical data, provide reassuring real-world evidence regarding the safety of propacetamol in a nationwide population to support regulatory decision-making.

Clinical Characteristics and Risk of Hypoxemia Development in Women Infected with SARS-CoV-2 during Pregnancy.
There is limited information on the clinical characteristics and prognosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during pregnancy. The clinical features and risk factors for hypoxemia development were investigated in pregnant women with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). ⋯ A quarter of SARS-CoV-2-infected women developed hypoxemic respiratory difficulty during pregnancy. SARS-CoV-2 infection during the third trimester, CRP elevation at admission, and no vaccination increased the risk of hypoxemia in pregnant women.

Association between Obesity and Heart Failure and Related Atrial Fibrillation: Patient-Level Data Comparisons of Two Cohort Studies.
Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) frequently coexist, with over 50% patients with HF having AF, while one-third of those with AF develop HF. Differences in obesity-mediated association between HF and HF-related AF among Asians and Europeans were evaluated. ⋯ Obesity was associated with an increased risk of HF and HF-related AF in both Korean and UK populations. The higher incidence in the UK population was likely due to the higher proportion of obese individuals.

Clinical Features of Delirium among Patients in the Intensive Care Unit According to Motor Subtype Classification: A Retrospective Longitudinal Study.
Delirium in the intensive care unit (ICU) poses a significant safety and socioeconomic burden to patients and caregivers. However, invasive interventions for managing delirium have severe drawbacks. To reduce unnecessary interventions during ICU hospitalization, we aimed to investigate the features of delirium among ICU patients according to the occurrence of hypoactive symptoms, which are not expected to require invasive intervention. ⋯ Managing and predicting delirium patients based on whether patients experienced non-hypoactive delirium may be clinically important. Variables obtained during the initial 48 hours can be used to determine which patients are likely to require invasive interventions.
