Comparison of Physician-Controlled Maneuver and Assistant-Controlled Maneuver during Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography.
Cannulation of the major papilla is the most challenging part of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for which physician-controlled wire-guided cannulation (PCWGC) and assistant-controlled wire-guided cannulation (ACWGC) are used as the cannulation techniques. PCWGC can reportedly save up to about 30% of the labor cost by reducing the number of assistants. This study aims to compare the safety and efficacy of PCWGC and ACWGC. ⋯ Requiring less assistants, PCWGC showed comparable efficacy and safety to ACWGC. PCWGC can be considered as an alternative option, especially in facilities lacking manpower and resources.

High Radiation Dose to the Fornix Causes Symptomatic Radiation Necrosis in Patients with Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma.
Surgery, radiotherapy (RT), and chemotherapy have prolonged the survival of patients with anaplastic oligodendroglioma. However, whether RT induces long-term toxicity remains unknown. We analyzed the relationship between the RT dose to the fornix and symptomatic radiation necrosis (SRN). ⋯ The maximum dose to the fornix was a significant factor for SRN development. While fornix sparing may help maintain neurocognitive function, additional studies are needed.

Comparative StudyShort-Term Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness between Long-Course Chemoradiation and Short-Course Radiotherapy for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer.
Long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT) has been widely recommended in a majority of rectal cancer patients. Recently, encouraging data on short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) for rectal cancer has emerged. In this study, we aimed to compare these two methods in terms of short-term outcomes and cost analysis under the Korean medical insurance system. ⋯ SCRT was well-tolerated and achieved favorable short-term outcomes. In addition, SCRT showed significant reduction in the total cost of care and distinguished cost-effectiveness compared to LCRT.

Diagnosis of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia via Whole Exome Sequencing and Histologic Findings.
To assess the diagnostic potential of whole-exome sequencing (WES) and elucidate the clinical and genetic characteristics of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) in the Korean population. ⋯ Through this study, we were able to confirm the value of WES as one of the diagnostic tools for PCD, which increases with TEM, rather than single gene tests. These results will prove useful to hospitals with limited access to PCD diagnostic testing but with relatively efficient in-house or outsourced access to genetic testing at a pre-symptomatic or early disease stage.

Exploring the Safety and Efficacy of Organic Light-Emitting Diode in Skin Rejuvenation and Wound Healing.
Photobiomodulation (PBM), encompassing low-energy laser treatment and light-emitting diode (LED) phototherapy, has demonstrated positive impacts on skin rejuvenation and wound healing. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) present a promising advancement as wearable light sources for PBM. However, the biological and biochemical substantiation of their skin rejuvenation and wound healing effects remains limited. This study aimed to ascertain the safety and efficacy of OLEDs as a next-generation PBM modality through comprehensive in vitro and in vivo investigations. ⋯ This study established comparable effectiveness between OLED and LED irradiation in upregulating collagen and growth factor expression levels while downregulating MMP levels in vitro. In the UV-irradiated animal skin model, OLED exposure post UV radiation correlated with reduced skin wrinkles and augmented dermal collagen density. Accelerated wound recovery and demonstrated safety further underscore OLEDs' potential as a future PBM modality alongside LEDs, offering promise in the realms of skin rejuvenation and wound healing.
