Case ReportsPartial left ventriculectomy in pediatric end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy.
Although a recent survey on pediatric cardiomyopathy in Japan showed that 48% of patients died despite the medical treatment, pediatric cardiac transplantation is not legal in Japan. We determined the feasibility of partial left ventriculectomy as an alternative to end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy. ⋯ Partial left ventriculectomy is appropriate for selected patients with end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy if medical therapy is not effective and heart transplantation is not possible.

Effects of chlorpromazine as a systemic vasodilator during cardiopulmonary bypass in neonates.
Vasodilator use during cardiopulmonary bypass is important in pediatric cardiac surgery, but the full range of their effects on hemodynamics remains to be clarified. We studied the effects of chlorpromazine, a potent alpha-blocking agent, in neonates. ⋯ Chlorpromazine effectively counteracts systemic vasoconstriction induced by cardiopulmonary bypass without serious side effects in neonatal cardiac surgery.
