Perioperative rehabilitation and physiotherapy for lung cancer patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of pulmonary rehabilitation on surgical morbidity and lung function in lung cancer patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). ⋯ Despite lower FEV1 and FEV1/FVC in the Rehab. Group, postoperative pulmonary complications and long hospital stay could be effectively prevented and FEV1 was well preserved by rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

Case ReportsKommerell's diverticular rupture complicated by aberrant left subclavian artery and right aortic arch successfully treated surgically.
We report a rare case of a rupture in Kommerell's diverticulum in a 73-year-old woman with Edwards IIIB aberrant left subclavian artery (A-LSA) and right aortic arch. This case was further complicated by an inferior vena cava defect. ⋯ The descending aorta was replaced and the Kommerell's diverticulum was excised, followed by A-LSA reconstruction, performed under deep hypothermia with selective cerebral perfusion. We believe the prognosis was excellent.

Cognitive dysfunction following cardiovascular surgery.
The aim of this study was the evaluation of perioperative cognitive dysfunction in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery with or without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and identification of the risk factors. ⋯ In the present study, it is possible that CPB did not play a significant role in the genesis of cognitive dysfunction after cardiovascular surgery. Age appears to be the only significant predictor of postoperative cognitive dysfunction.

Case ReportsSuccessful repair of traumatic tricuspid valve regurgitation.
Isolated traumatic tricuspid valve regurgitation is an uncommon complication of blunt chest trauma. Tricuspid valve replacement has been ordinarily managed for this lesion. ⋯ Postoperative echocardiography revealed that the tricuspid valve regurgitation improved to mild and trivial respectively in two patients. They are presently doing well, 4 and 2 years after the repair, respectively.

Early results of off-pump coronary artery bypass: retrospective consecutive comparative study.
The purpose of this study is to compare the operative results of off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) and on-pump (conventional) coronary artery bypass (CCAB), to clarify qualitative problems and whether OPCAB is less invasive or not. ⋯ Operative mortality and major complications after surgery in OPCAB were lower than that in CCAB. The early patency rate in OPCAB was as good as that in CCAB. It is considered that OPCAB is less invasive and the quality of bypass in OPCAB is as good as that in CCAB.
