Safe and reasonable surgical care in the context of COVID-19 pandemic is difficult task. The main current issues are selection of patients for surgical treatment, principles of surgical treatment in cancer patients, possibilities of endoscopic surgery, organization of surgical department and operating theatre, surgical strategy in infected patients. Own experience and rational implementation of the recommendations developed by international research and practical communities are extremely important for optimizing surgical treatment of patients in a pandemic, as well as for ensuring the safety of patients and medical staff.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is the most common cystic pancreatic tumor. There are 3 ductal types of this tumor depending on localization. ⋯ The problems of diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up are reviewed in several guidelines. Literature review devoted to pancreatic IPMN is presented in the article, the latest guidelines are compared.

Minimally invasive approach in mitral valve surgery has been applied since the late 1990s. Considerable experience of mini-thoracotomy in cardiac surgery has been gained over this period. ⋯ Surgical outcomes of these procedures are reported considering data of various cardiac surgery centers. Moreover, the authors determined indications and limitations of this technique.

Tooptimize MRI protocol in pregnant women with suspected acute appendicitis. ⋯ MRI was useful to assess appendix and differentiate appendicitis with biliary and urinary diseases.

Comparative Study
[Transsternal occlusion of the main bronchus stump in bronchopleural fistula and non-specific pleural empyema].
To present our experience in the treatment of patients with bronchopleural fistula and chronic non-specific pleural empyema after pneumonectomy. ⋯ Transsternal occlusion of bronchial stump is more advisable than tissue flap transposition in patients with chronic pleural empyema followed by BPF and bronchial stump length over 20 mm due to less trauma and good reproducibility.
