Comparative StudyExternal validation of the cancer of the prostate risk assessment score to predict biochemical relapse after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer in Japanese patients.
The aim of the present study was external validation to determine whether the Cancer of the Prostate Risk Assessment (CAPRA) score predicts biochemical relapse (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP) in Japanese patients. ⋯ In Japanese patients, the CAPRA score can predict BCR after RP only to some degree. Although our c-index is comparable with the c-index of 0.66 in the original CaPSURE cohort, it is lower than the c-indices reported in other validation cohorts, which range from 0.68 to 0.81. The CAPRA score may not predict BCR after RP in Japanese patients as accurately as it did in Western patients.

Ketamine-associated urinary tract dysfunction: an underrecognized clinical entity.
The use of ketamine as a recreational drug is on the increase among young adults attending clubs and parties. Recreational ketamine users have anecdotally reported increased lower urinary tract symptoms while using the substance. ⋯ Ketamine-associated urinary tract dysfunction appears to be a relatively new clinical phenomenon. The pathological mechanism of ketamine-associated urinary tract dysfunction is unknown and current management strategies are ketamine cessation along with intravesical sodium hyaluronate solution.

Effects of YC-1 on hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha in hypoxic human bladder transitional carcinoma cell line T24 cells.
It was the aim of this study to explore the effects of 3-(5'-hydroxymethyl-2'-furyl)-l-benzyl indazole (YC-1) on transcription activity, cell proliferation and apoptosis of hypoxic human bladder transitional carcinoma cells (BTCC), mediated by hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α). ⋯ YC-1 inhibits HIF-1α and HIF-1α-mediated gene expression, cell proliferation and migration activity and induces apoptosis in hypoxic BTCC. The ERK/p38 MAPK pathway may be involved in YC-1-mediated inhibition of HIF-1α.

The objective of this study is to describe and analyze the experience over a period of 10 years at our center through a retrospective study of a series of diagnosed and treated cases of penile fracture. ⋯ A penis fracture diagnosis is mostly clinical; complementary tests, such as ultrasound, are helpful but not definitive. Surgical treatment consists of an incision that allows adequate exposure of the corpora cavernosa and urethra to repair the suspected lesions found upon diagnosis. Ambulatory follow-up is essential to diagnose and treat possible complications.
