Randomized Controlled TrialA New Approach to the Treatment of Uncomplicated Cystitis: Results of a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.
To assess the efficacy and safety of a new medical device (MD; a capsule whose main component is a cross-linked protein) in the prevention of uncomplicated cystitis recurrences. ⋯ The new MD can help prevent the recurrence of uncomplicated cystitis as well as help to reduce antibiotic use in management of urinary tract infection in women.

Randomized Controlled TrialImpact of thoracic epidural analgesia on blood loss in radical retropubic prostatectomy.
Radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) is associated with an increased risk of intraoperative blood loss and the necessity of transfusions. This prospective randomised clinical study evaluates the influence of thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) on blood loss in RRP. ⋯ This study did not demonstrate a direct impact of TEA on intraoperative blood loss and transfusion rates in RRP. Further randomised clinical trials are needed to evaluate an impact of the different anaesthetic procedures presented alone or in combination on blood loss.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudySupplementary X-ray for ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy in supine position versus standard technique: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the success and complication rates of sonography-guided supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) versus prone standard technique (fluoroscopic guidance) in a randomized controlled trial. ⋯ In this study, sonography-guided supine PCNL was presented as a safe and effective technique, similar to standard PCNL, with comparable success and complication rates. In addition, using this technique eliminates the possible harmful impacts of radiation on the surgical team and decreases postoperative fever.

Randomized Controlled TrialA prospective randomized study comparing percutaneous nephrolithotomy under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia with percutaneous nephrolithotomy under general anesthesia.
A prospective randomized study was executed to compare the surgical parameters and stone clearance in patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) versus those who underwent PNL under general anesthesia (GA). ⋯ PNL under CSEA is as effective and safe as PNL under GA. Patients who undergo PNL under CESA require lesser analgesic dose and have a shorter hospital stay.

Review Randomized Controlled Trial Meta AnalysisTreatment of ureteral lithiasis with tamsulosin: literature review and meta-analysis.
Ninety percent of ureteral calculi <4 mm are expelled over a period of 3 months; if they are >6 mm the elimination possibilities are reduced to 30%. Presently, investigations in the treatment of ureteral lithiasis have the objective of modifying ureter contractibility with the aid of calcium antagonist and alpha-blocking drugs. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of tamsulosin in the treatment of the distal ureter lithiasis and to make a systematic analysis of the literature. ⋯ Tamsulosin increases the elimination of distal ureter lithiasis of <10 mm.
