Intra-arterial versus oscillometric blood pressure measurements in women with severe peripartum hypertension undergoing urgent treatment with nicardipine: An observational study.
The aim of this study was to compare radial arterial catheter-derived pressure with oscillometric blood pressure in women with severe peripartum hypertension undergoing urgent treatment with intravenous nicardipine at a maternal intensive care unit. ⋯ Intra-arterial MAP can be used reliably to monitor the effect of intravenous nicardipine for treating severe hypertension. Intra-arterial SBP may trigger moderate-risk treatment decisions in the women with oscillometric SBP ≤ 160 mm Hg.

Neonatal outcomes in obese pregnant women who develop preeclampsia.
Obesity and preeclampsia in pregnant women are each independently associated with poorer neonatal outcomes. We study obesity and preeclampsia alone and also in combination in pregnant women to determine their association with neonatal outcomes. ⋯ Patients with preeclampsia alone or preeclampsia/obesity combined are associated with higher odds for NICU admission. However, obesity alone without preeclampsia is not associated with NICU admission. This knowledge can allow the Pediatric service prior to delivery to prepare and mitigate potential poor neonatal complications.

Postpartum hypertensive disorders in the Emergency Department - A retrospective review of local practice in Calgary, Alberta.
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) commonly occur postpartum and are associated with preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. HDP is the most common reason for presentation to the Emergency Department (ED) after delivery. However, given the broad range of non-specific symptoms, recognition and management of postpartum HDP may be delayed leading to serious adverse clinical outcomes.

Randomized Controlled TrialA randomized-controlled trial to assess the effect of ibuprofen on postpartum blood pressure in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
To test the hypothesis that ibuprofen is equivalent to acetaminophen in its effect on postpartum blood pressure in women with gestational hypertension or preeclampsia without severe features. ⋯ Among women with gestational hypertension and preeclampsia without severe features, ibuprofen is an equally safe option as acetaminophen with respect to postpartum blood pressure concerns.

Vascular endothelial growth factor C/A 2578 gene polymorphism and umbilical artery Doppler in preeclamptic women.
Preeclampsia is strongly associated with placental hypoperfusion. Genetic factors have an impact on the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. The aim is to assess the association of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (C2578A) gene polymorphism with the occurrence and severity of preeclampsia and the umbilical artery Doppler changes among preeclamptic women. ⋯ We concluded that VEGF 2578C/A polymorphism had no association with the occurrence of preeclampsia in studied groups, whereas there was a significant relationship among severe cases between CA and CC genotypes and pulsatility index of the umbilical artery.
