To assess the efficacy and safety of Xiyanping injection for hand foot mouth disease. All Clinical studies of Xiyanping injection for hand foot mouth disease were searched from Cochrane library, Medline, EMbase, CBM, CNKI, Wanfang and VIP. Selection of trials for inclusion, data extraction, assessment of methodological quality were completed by two independent screening. ⋯ The systematic review suggests that Xiyanping injection in the combination with conventional treatment may improve the efficacy of the treatment of hand foot mouth disease. However, as all of the included trials were published in Chinese and of poor quality, we cannot draw a sure conclusion. More rigorous trials with high quality are required.

Review[Systematic analysis on clinical safety of Shuxuetong injection].
To evaluate the clinical adverse drug reactions (ADR) of Shuxuetong Injection (SXTI) comprehensively for its proper use and post-marketing reevaluation. ⋯ Allergic reaction is the most common ADR type of SXTI. Incidence rate of different studies varies, so a rigorously designed prospectively ADR surveillance study is needed to reevaluate its incidence rate, and analyze reasons of the heterogeneity. Information concerning ADR in literatures is always absent, the quality of reporting is relative poor, thus it is suggested that active, standardized, and systematic ADR reporting should be focused on in clinical trials.

Review[Some key issues about scientific research on traditional Chinese medicine].
Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan in China, the science and technology of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has gained unprecedented high attention, and at the same time, the people who have been engaging in the TCM research are bearing more and more missions and responsibilities. In order to get more significant breakthroughs and scientific achievements with great innovation, great value and great influence in the near future, the radical target and strategy for TCM research should be made out as follows: sifting out the lees, laying aside the disputes, tamping the identical opinions, and innovating to apply. In other words, the principle that "to do what can be done, not to do what can not be done; to do what should be done, not to do what should not be done, and to pay more attention to standardization than to innovation" should be recognized unequivocally. The six issues such as the evaluation and improvement of TCM efficacy, the safety evaluation and reasonable usage of TCM, the innovation and development of TCM quality evaluation and control technology, the sustainable utilization and protection of TCM resources, the elucidation and modernization of TCM basic theory, etc. should be considered as the prior and key aspects of TCM research in the following 20 years in China.
