Meta AnalysisLow Reinfection Rates But a High Rate of Complications in THA for Infection Sequelae in Childhood: A Systematic Review.
Childhood hip infections can result in serious sequelae during adulthood, including persistent pain, functional limitations, and premature THA. When THA is performed in patients who had hip joint infections during childhood, surgeons surmise these arthroplasties are at an increased risk of complications and incomplete recovery. However, the degree to which this is true is not well characterized and has varied across a large number of small, retrospective studies. ⋯ Level IV, therapeutic study.

The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has resulted in a rapid pivot toward telemedicine owing to closure of in-person elective clinics and sustained efforts at physical distancing worldwide. Throughout this period, there has been revived enthusiasm for delivering and receiving orthopaedic care remotely. Unfortunately, rapidly published editorials and commentaries during the pandemic have not adequately conveyed findings of published randomized trials on this topic. ⋯ Level I, therapeutic study.

Meta AnalysisDoes the Type of Extracorporeal Shock Therapy Influence Treatment Effectiveness in Lateral Epicondylitis? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been used in various musculoskeletal disorders, including lateral epicondylitis. However, in 2005, a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials showed that ESWT provides minimal or no benefit in terms of pain and function in patients with lateral epicondylitis. Since the review, several randomized controlled trials including different types of ESWT such as radial type for lateral epicondylitis have been published. Investigations of the effect modifiers such as symptom and follow-up duration on the effects of ESWT on lateral epicondylitis have not been performed. ⋯ Level I, therapeutic study.

Meta AnalysisAre There Differences in Accuracy or Outcomes Scores Among Navigated, Robotic, Patient-specific Instruments or Standard Cutting Guides in TKA? A Network Meta-analysis.
Several kinds of cutting guides, including patient-specific instrumentation, navigation, standard cutting guides, accelerometer-based navigation, and robotic guidance, are available to restore a planned alignment during TKA. No previous study has simultaneously compared all of these devices; a network meta-analysis is an especially appealing method because it allows comparisons across approaches that were not compared head-to-head in individual randomized controlled trials. ⋯ Level I, therapeutic study.
