Meta AnalysisCosts of health services utilization of people with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder by sex and age group in Alberta, Canada.
To estimate the annual health services utilization (HSU) cost per person with FASD by sex and age; the lifetime HSU cost per person with FASD by sex, and the annual HSU cost of FASD for Alberta by sex. ⋯ The findings suggest that FASD is a public health issue in Alberta and can be used for economic evaluations of FASD intervention and/or prevention in the province.

ReviewThe effects of antidepressant medications on mothers and babies.
Depression during pregnancy may be undertreated for a variety of reasons, one of which is concern regarding the safety of antidepressant medication. Dr. ⋯ The clinical group has published systematic reviews and meta-analyses on various potential outcomes following antidepressant exposure (i.e., congenital anomalies, spontaneous abortion, delivery outcomes, immediate neonatal outcomes and persistent pulmonary hypertension) in addition to outcomes associated with maternal depression. Some of the results of this program of research are presented together with a case example to start your thinking on the issues.

ReviewSurviving morning sickness successfully: from patient's perception to rational management.
Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) affects up to 85% of pregnant women, with varying degrees of severity. The most severe form of NVP, known as hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), affects up to 2% of pregnancies. ⋯ The symptoms and impact of NVP and HG can vary greatly among women, therefore treatment must be tailored to the individual. Updated Motherisk guidelines are presented.
