Comparative StudyHysteroscopically targeted biopsies compared with blind samplings in endometrial assessment of menopausal women taking tamoxifen for breast cancer.
To determine the validity of tissue sampling accomplished by hysteroscopically targeted or blind biopsies in the assessment of endometrial morbidity associated with tamoxifen treatment. ⋯ In women taking tamoxifen, endometrial evaluation performed by blind sampling is safe in excluding hyperplasias or carcinomas. For complete understanding of tamoxifen-associated morbidity, hysteroscopy with sampling under vision has better diagnostic compliance.

A simple technique to reduce fluid intravasation during endometrial resection.
The rate of fluid intravasation may abruptly and alarmingly increase during endometrial resection. Left unchecked, this may lead to complications of fluid overload. In 20 patients, temporary cessation of surgery in the form of a 10-minute glycine-free interval reduced the rate of fluid intravasation by 38.75% to 85.81% (mean 67.09%) in the later part of surgery. This was possibly due to hemostatic sealing of open blood vessels which prevented further intravasation of distending medium into systemic circulation.

Comparative StudyRisk factors for conversion to laparotomy during gynecologic laparoscopy.
To identify risk factors and short-term outcomes associated with conversion from laparoscopic surgery to laparotomy. ⋯ All women undergoing laparoscopy should be counseled that unintended laparotomy is a known risk and has additional morbidity over laparoscopy alone. Less-experienced surgeons attempting complicated procedures significantly increase the risk of conversion.

We provide a non-technical overview of what P-values are and what they are not. To determine how P-values ought to be used, reported, and interpreted, we must first clarify the often-overlooked differences between, and proper usages of, significance testing and hypothesis testing. ⋯ Common misinterpretations of P-values are explained. Confidence intervals provide essential information where P-values are deficient in doing so and they therefore play an essential role in reporting and interpreting study results.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialComparative, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of intraperitoneal of bupivacaine and lidocaine for pain control after diagnostic laparoscopy.
To compare the effect of intraperitoneal bupivacaine and lidocaine on reducing pain after diagnostic laparoscopy. ⋯ Compared with lidocaine and placebo, intraperitoneal bupivacaine significantly decreased postoperative pain, and this effect was long lasting.
