Multicenter Study Comparative StudyAdverse events rates and risk factors in adults undergoing cardiac catheterization at pediatric hospitals--results from the C3PO.
Determine the frequency and risk factors for adverse events (AE) for adults undergoing cardiac catheterization at pediatric hospitals. ⋯ Adults undergoing catheterization at pediatric hospitals encountered AE less frequently than children did. The congenital heart disease adjustment for risk method for adults with congenital heart disease is a new tool for assessing procedural risk in adult patients.

Case ReportsBalloon valuloplasty prior to transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation in a degenerated Mitroflow aortic bioprosthesis.
Transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation is an emerging treatment option for high-risk patients with failing aortic bioprostheses. The presence of the prosthesis stents is thought to prevent coronary artery obstruction, a known complication of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in the native aortic valve. ⋯ This might explain why both the cases of coronary occlusion following valve-in-valve implantation reported to date occurred in patients with a malfunctioning Mitroflow bioprosthesis. We describe a patient with a malfunctioning 25 mm Mitroflow bioprosthesis successfully treated by percutaneous transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation, and discuss the role that balloon aortic valvuloplasty plays in the performance of this delicate procedure.

Randomized Controlled TrialRemote ischemic preconditioning immediately before percutaneous coronary intervention does not impact myocardial necrosis, inflammatory response, and circulating endothelial progenitor cell counts: a single center randomized sham controlled trial.
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is frequently accompanied by myocardial injury. The present study was performed to determine whether remote ischemic preconditioning (IP) induces cardioprotection during PCI. ⋯ Our study indicates that remote IP immediately before PCI does not induce cardioprotection in low to moderate risk patients.

Comparative StudyIs EuroSCORE II better than EuroSCORE in predicting mortality after transcatheter aortic valve implantation?
The purpose of this study was to examine the performance of the European system for cardiac operative risk evaluation II (ESII) in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). ⋯ Although the ESII demonstrated better predictive performance especially in the TF cohort, ESII is still inadequate in predicting mortality after TAVI as are LES and STS.
