Microvascular mandibular reconstruction should be considered the procedure of choice for bone replacement in radiated tissue beds, orocutaneous fistulae with segmental bone loss, osteoradionecrotic mandibles, and for immediate composite tissue reconstruction. The free vascularized fibula has significant potential for the reconstruction of the mandible. We evaluated our clinical experience in 21 cases of mandible reconstruction with fibular flaps. ⋯ Fibular bone allows to plan osteotomies in relation to the orientation of the bone and its vascular pedicle. Thick cortical bone readily accepts plates and screws for a secure interosseous fixation and osteointegrated implants may be placed in this bone safely. Among other alternatives like scapular and crista ilaca flaps, fibular flap has many advantages for mandible reconstruction and represents the first choice for the head and neck surgeon.

Comparative StudyComparison of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) with autogenous vein as a nerve conduit in rat sciatic nerve defects.
In this study, we compared expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) tube with autogenous vein as an alternative conduit material in a rat sciatic nerve model. ⋯ It was experimentally demonstrated that ePTFE tube could be considered an alternative to autogenous vein graft to bridge small nerve defects.

Case ReportsChondrosarcoma of the nasal septum: a case report.
The nasal septum is a particularly rare site of origin of a chondrosarcoma. A 55-year-old man presented with complaints of nasal obstruction and anosmia of one year duration. A fragile mass was detected in the left nasal cavity. ⋯ Following a biopsy, the tumor was resected via a lateral rhinotomy approach. No evidence for recurrent disease was detected during a three-year follow-up period. Although unusual in the nasal septum, chondrosarcoma must be considered in the differential diagnosis of calcified intranasal masses.

The aim of this study was to present the demographic data of our patients who underwent bronchoscopy for suspected aspiration of a foreign body. We also assessed the sensitivity and specificity of history, symptoms, physical examination, and radiological findings in these patients. ⋯ A chocking crisis is an absolute indication for bronchoscopy. Our low complication rate allowed us to perform bronchoscopy more liberally in patients with suspected foreign body aspiration. The sensitivity of history, symptoms, and physical findings were very high, whereas the specificity of history and symptoms were very low.
