To identify chronic pain management strategies aimed to reduce pain intensity and enhance functional outcomes in veterans of wars and armed conflict. ⋯ Nonpharmacological treatments for chronic pain have increased in recent years, a shift from earlier reliance on pharmacological treatments. More evidence from randomized controlled trials on the benefits of combined pain interventions could improve pain management of veterans with complex care needs.

ASPMN Position Statement: Authorized Agent Controlled Analgesia.
The American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN) has reviewed and updated its position statement on the use of authorized agent controlled analgesia (AACA) for patients who are unable to independently utilize a self-dosing analgesic infusion pump, commonly known as patient-controlled analgesia (PCA). ASPMN continues to support the use of AACA to provide timely and effective pain management while promoting equitable care for vulnerable patient populations who are unable to use PCA. ⋯ This position statement includes an updated review of the evidence related to AACA. Clinical practice recommendations for authorized agents, nurses, prescribers, and organizations are provided with an emphasis on the importance of appropriate authorized agent selection, education, diligent patient assessment and medication management.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe effects on older adults. Depressive symptoms, poor sleep quality, and pain are common in older adults with frailty. However, it is unknown the relationship between these symptoms and frailty in nursing home residents and the difference of importance between pain intensity and pain impact on frailty during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Therefore, this study aims to explore the associations between depressive symptoms, poor sleep quality, pain intensity, and pain impact with frailty in older adults living in nursing homes. ⋯ Depressive symptoms, poor sleep quality, pain intensity, and pain impact are common among nursing home residents. Furthermore, these symptoms interacted with each other. In future studies, multidisciplinary interventions aimed at releasing these symptoms and reducing the adverse outcome of frailty are needed.

Frequency, ability to cope, and severity of pain; the genetic structure of the individual affects their emotional and cultural characteristics, beliefs, and personal characteristics. It is stated that pain beliefs are one of the factors affecting emotional pain control and approach to pain. ⋯ It was concluded that there was no relationship between the pain level and pain beliefs of patients with low pain in the postoperative period. Individuals experiencing postoperative pain believe that pain occurs due to the influence of both organic and psychological factors. For this reason, it is recommended factors that nurses who care for individuals experiencing postoperative pain provide care for both organic and psychological sources of pain.

An increase in the workload and use of personal protective equipment by healthcare workers was observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the connections between craniocervical structures, symptoms such as neck pain and temporomandibular symptoms could be influenced by the use of PPE. ⋯ Healthcare workers self-reported more craniocervical pain during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to before the pandemic. In addition, poor sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and physical inactivity were associated with craniocervical symptoms during this period.
