Tapering Opioid Prescription Program for High-Risk Trauma Patients: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.
Chronic opioid use has been documented in up to 20% of patients with traumatic injuries. Hence, we developed the Tapering Opioids Prescription Program for high-risk Trauma (TOPP-Trauma) patients. ⋯ Some challenges need to be addressed before testing TOPP-Trauma. These include creating strategies to decrease attrition, offering the program throughout the care continuum to higher risk patients, and evaluating the impacts of reduced opioid use.

Evaluation of Efficacy of Valsalva Maneuver During Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation on Pain.
AIMS: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the Valsalva maneuver during peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion on procedure-related pain. ⋯ Valsalva maneuver can be used as a non-pharmacologic method to reduce pain during PIVC placement.

Effect of White Noise and Lullabies on Pain and Vital Signs in Invasive Interventions Applied to Premature Babies.
This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/withdrawalpolicy). The editors have decided to retract the article based on the lack of ethical standard care interventions that should have been administered to the control group during planned blood collection. That standard of care includes known, evidence-based interventions such as massage, kangaroo care, listening to music, non-nutritive sucking/pacifier, and wrapping.

The Effect of Cold Therapy Applied to the Incision Area After Abdominal Surgery on Postoperative Pain and Analgesic Use.
Cold therapy is one of the most common nonpharmacologic pain treatments. Despite the existence of many studies about cold therapy, few have examined the effects of cold therapy after abdominal surgery. ⋯ Both groups had decreased pain levels, and the decrease in the experimental group was greater than in the control group but cold therapy had no statistically significant effect on analgesics use.

The Feasibility and Efficacy of Self-help Relaxation Exercise in Symptom Distress in Patients With Adult Acute Leukemia: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.
To examine the feasibility and efficacy of self-help relaxation exercises in alleviating symptom distress in adult patients with acute leukemia (AL). ⋯ Self-help relaxation exercises were feasible for the AL patients and significantly reduced their pain symptoms. Minor revision of the protocol for future definitive trials is needed.
