Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyVagus Nerve Stimulation Paired With Upper-Limb Rehabilitation After Stroke: One-Year Follow-up.
Background. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) paired with rehabilitation may improve upper-limb impairment and function after ischemic stroke. Objective. ⋯ Other functional measures were also improved at 1 year. Conclusions. VNS combined with rehabilitation is feasible, with good long-term adherence, and may improve arm function after ischemic stroke.

Randomized Controlled TrialCognitively Challenging Agility Boot Camp Program for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson Disease.
Introduction. It is well documented that freezing of gait (FoG) episodes occur in situations that are mentally challenging, such as dual tasks, consistent with less automatic control of gait in people with Parkinson disease (PD) and FoG. However, most physical rehabilitation does not include such challenges. ⋯ Conclusions. The ABC-C for people with PD and FoG is a feasible exercise program that has potential to improve FoG, balance, dual-task cost, executive function, and brain connectivity. The study provided effect sizes to help design future studies with more participants and longer duration to fully determine the potential to improve FoG.

Randomized Controlled TrialDo Patients With Parkinson's Disease With Freezing of Gait Respond Differently Than Those Without to Treadmill Training Augmented by Virtual Reality?
Background. People with Parkinson's disease and freezing of gait (FOG+) have more falls, postural instability and cognitive impairment compared with FOG-. Objective. ⋯ Treadmill walking (with or without VR) improved postural instability in both FOG+ and FOG-, while controlling for disease severity differences. As found previously, TT + VR reduced falls more than TT alone, even among those with FOG. Interestingly, FOG itself was not helped by training, suggesting that although postural instability, falls and FOG are related, they may be controlled by different mechanisms.

Randomized Controlled TrialAn Exploratory Randomized Trial of Physical Therapy for the Treatment of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.
Background. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common side effect of taxane treatment and cannot currently be prevented or adequately treated. Physical therapy is often used for neural rehabilitation following injury but has not been evaluated in this patient population. ⋯ Conclusion. Physical therapy home program may improve CIPN pain in the upper extremity for patients with breast cancer, and general exercise throughout chemotherapy treatment was observed to have correlated to preservation of sensory function. Further research is required to confirm the impact of a physical therapy home program on CIPN symptoms.

Randomized Controlled TrialLearning a Bimanual Cooperative Skill in Chronic Stroke Under Noninvasive Brain Stimulation: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Background. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been suggested to improve poststroke recovery. However, its effects on bimanual motor learning after stroke have not previously been explored. ⋯ Conclusion. The chronic hemiparetic stroke patients learned and retained the complex bimanual cooperative task and generalized the newly acquired skills to other tasks, indicating that bimanual CIRCUIT training is promising as a neurorehabilitation approach. However, bimanual motor skill learning was not enhanced by dual-tDCS in these patients.
