Videodensitometry and chest radiography in the evaluation of pulmonary blood flow and pulmonary oedema in a porcine model of early adult respiratory distress syndrome.
The adult respiratory distress syndrome was induced in pigs (n = 11) by a continuous infusion of E. coli endotoxin in order to evaluate the use of radiographic videodensitometry and chest radiography for assessment of pulmonary circulation and pulmonary oedema. A further aim was to determine the effect of an ionic contrast medium, Urografin 60%, on extravascular lung water (EVLW). The infusion resulted in a decline in arterial oxygen tension. ⋯ Pleural effusion developed in 4 animals. Injection of Urografin 60%, 1 ml X kg-1, caused a slight but significant decrease in EVLW. We propose that at this concentration and dosage the contrast medium acts mainly as an osmotic diuretic.

Case ReportsMagnetic resonance imaging of sacrococcygeal tumors.
Five sacral tumors, 2 chordomas, 2 chondro- and/or osteosarcomas and one metastasis were examined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The tumor delineation was excellent in all cases, and in several respects superior to CT. The signal pattern from the chordoma differed considerably from the other tumors suggesting a potential for tumor differentiation with MRI.

Comparative StudyTraumatic olecranon bursitis. Radiologic observations.
The affected elbow of 28 patients with traumatic olecranon bursitis was radiographically compared with the homologous elbow of 28 matched controls. Olecranon spurs, amorphous calcium deposits, or both, were present in 16 patients and 4 controls (p less than 0.01). ⋯ Olecranon spurs, present in 6 patients, corresponded to the insertion of the triceps tendon. With elbow flexion the bursa flattened and lengthened while the olecranon process glided distally beneath the bursal floor.

Ascending lumbar veins. Catheterization technique and radiographic anatomy.
The normal anatomy of the ascending lumbar veins and a catheterization technique used to demonstrate these veins at phlebography are reported. The use of this examination when dealing with malignant disease in the abdomen and retroperitoneal region is not warranted, on account of the wide range of anatomic and phlebographic variation.

Pulmonary abnormalities in mitral valve disease. Comparison between pulmonary wedge pressure, regional pulmonary blood flow and chest films.
Chest films, right sided heart catheterization, and measurement of the regional lung perfusion, using 133Xe, were carried out 31 times on patients with mitral valve disease. A relationship was found between the radiologic evaluation in 3 grades, and the values of pulmonary wedge pressure and the apical and basal perfusion. Changes in flow distribution as reflected in altered appearance of the vessels and the presence of interstitial edema were found to be the most sensitive factors in the evaluation of pulmonary wedge pressure. Chest radiography was thus found suitable for the evaluation of pulmonary wedge pressure in mitral valve disease.
