Analgesic efficacy of quadratus lumborum block in patients undergoing nephrectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of quadratus lumborum block (QLB) in adults undergoing nephrectomy. ⋯ Single-shot QLB provided a statistically significant but clinically small improvement in postoperative analgesia and recovery for patients undergoing nephrectomy. The QLB would be beneficial as part of multimodal analgesia. Future research might need to determine which approach of QLB is superior for postoperative analgesia after nephrectomy.

Can internet-delivered pain management programs reduce psychological distress in chronic pain? Exploring relationships between anxiety and depression, pain intensity, and disability.
Adults with chronic pain who also report high pain intensity and disability are more likely to experience depression and anxiety symptoms. The present study examined changes in anxiety and depression symptoms after an Internet-delivered pain management program based on baseline pain intensity and disability severity categories. ⋯ These findings suggest that emerging Internet-delivered pain management programs can lead to reductions in psychological distress even when pain intensity and disability are severe or do not improve with treatment. This indicates the value of such treatments in treating distress and improving mental health in people with chronic pain.

Comparison of polynucleotide, sodium hyaluronate, and crosslinked sodium hyaluronate for the management of painful knee osteoarthritis: a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study.
To compare the clinical effectiveness of sodium polynucleotide, classic hyaluronic acid, and crosslinked hyaluronic acid for the management of painful knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Polynucleotide significantly relieves pain more and relieves pain faster in patients with knee osteoarthritis than classic and crosslinked hyaluronic acid, with improved health-related quality of life.

Chronic pain results in significant impairment in older adults, yet some individuals maintain adaptive functioning. Limited research has considered the role of positive resources in promoting resilience among older adults. Likewise, these factors have largely been examined independently. We aimed to identify resilience domains based on biopsychosocial factors and explore whether resilience phenotypes vary across sleep disturbance, fatigue, and cognitive function. ⋯ A higher array of protective resources could buffer against the negative sequelae associated with chronic low back pain. These exploratory findings support the multidimensional nature of resilience and suggest that targeting resilience from a multisystem perspective might help to optimize interventions for older adults with chronic pain.

Size reduction of the right amygdala in chronic pain patients with emotional stress: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The structural impact of chronic pain on amygdala in chronic pain (CP) patients remains unclear, although major depression and anxiety are known to be associated with its increase and decrease in size, respectively. This study aimed at examining the relationship between emotional stress and amygdala size in CP patients. The effects of mediating and moderating variables were also examined. ⋯ Besides, pain from a single body region was more likely to impact the amygdala size compared to diffuse pain (P = .02). Regression analysis revealed no significant association between continuous variables (age, gender, pain duration/intensity) and amygdala size. Our findings demonstrated that emotional stress was associated with a reduced right amygdala size in CP patients.
