Congenital cataract is a common cause of childhood low vision or blindness worldwide. Early surgery should be performed in sensitive vision development period to avoid vision deprivation in cases of strabismus and nystagmus development. Postoperative recovery of visual function is of great significance for these patients and should include proper postoperative aphakia correction by the application of a contact lens and secondary implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). ⋯ Surgery in early infancy are risk factors for these two complications. Life-long follow-up is essential for these patients. Further study will continue to address the surgery timing issue and methods that prevent postoperative complications.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Comparison of postoperative pain following laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy: a prospective, random paired bilateral eye study.
To compare postoperative pain following laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK) and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK, two-step surgery) and alleviate postoperative subjective pain. ⋯ Good visual acuity was obtained in both groups at postoperative 3 months. Compared with those in the T-PRK group, patients undergoing had less discomfort in the LASEK group, which may be associated with corneal epithelial activity. The changing curve of subjective pain in the T-PRK group was relatively flat and stable at postoperative 3 days.

To investigate the important experience of nursing care of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in children undergoing cataract surgery. ⋯ Nursing care specific for LMA is a vital part of the success of anesthesia and pediatric cataract surgery.
-
To report a phenomenon of optical nerve atrophy secondary to lateral occipital lobe infarction. ⋯ Bilateral optic atrophy was related to occipital lobe infarction, and a possible explanation for the atrophy was transneuronal degeneration caused by occipital lobe infarction.

Comparative Study
Application value of topical aneasthesia in children strabismus surgery.
Comparison of topical vs general aneasthesia for strabismus surgery. ⋯ Topical aneasthesia represents a safe and effective alternative to general aneasthesia for strabismus surgery in children.
