Opioid availability for the palliative care of patients with advanced cancer is increasing globally. However, opioid consumption in Japan is still extremely low compared with that in other countries. We investigated the current situation of pain control and opioid consumption in patients with advanced cancer in Japan. ⋯ This study was funded by the authors and by Shionogi (Osaka, Japan), Nippon Zoki Pharmaceutical (Osaka, Japan), and Heartfelt (Kumamoto, Japan).

Multicenter StudyCatastrophic expenditure and treatment delivery outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer in India: a prospective, multicentre cohort study.
Little is known about the factors preventing patients with colorectal cancer in India from receiving the treatment they need to reach the best oncological outcomes. Patients often struggle to pay for cancer care, possibly leading to treatment dropout. The aim of this study was to assess treatment adherence and catastrophic expenditure rates in a cohort of patients with colorectal cancer in India. ⋯ National Institute for Health Research Global Health Research Unit Grant (NIHR 16.136.79) with aid from the UK Government to support global health research.

Availability of essential medicines for children with cancer in Sri Lanka: a prospective cohort study.
The WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for children (2019 version) contains 39 antineoplastic and supportive medicines deemed essential for the successful treatment of children with cancer. The availability of these medicines varies across countries, but most reports are retrospective or short term. This study tracked the availability of these medicines in Sri Lanka's only treatment centre for childhood cancer, the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka, over 1 year, and examined initial mitigation strategies and implications. ⋯ None.

Association of tobacco control measures with the intention to quit tobacco consumption: a cross-sectional study from India.
More than 7 million cancer-related deaths worldwide are associated with tobacco, of which India is the second largest producer and consumer. The current study tests a model based on the hypothesis that poor implementation of tobacco control measures and poor basic education affect the frequency and duration of tobacco use, creating substantial nicotine dependency and thereby preventing smokers from quitting tobacco consumption. ⋯ None.

Observational StudyFeasibility of self-sampling and human papillomavirus testing in rural and urban areas for cervical cancer prevention in Bolivia: an observational study.
Cervical cancer is a major health problem in Latin America. In 2019, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (La Paz regional site) conducted a pilot study to estimate the prevalence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) and the feasibility of HPV screening in Bolivia through self-sampling and portable and transportable laboratory instruments for HPV testing in urban and rural areas. ⋯ Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), as a part of an ongoing technical assistance programme with the Bolivian Ministry of Health.
