Non-microscopic Middle Ear Cholesteatoma Surgery: A Case Report of a Novel Head-Up Approach.
To assess the feasibility of a postauricular transcortical mastoidectomy utilizing an exoscope, which offers 3D stereoscopic visualization. ⋯ During endoscope-based surgery, in patients with cholesteatoma mastoid involvement, we can continue to perform the surgical procedure in a heads-up position utilizing a surgical 3D exoscope. The combination of transcanal endoscopic ear surgery and the postauricular transcortical mastoidectomy utilizing a surgical 3D exoscope is a very novel treatment strategy for cholesteatoma, and it gives us a comfortable and consistent working environment in endoscope-based ear surgery.

To investigate the association of serum bilirubin level with hearing outcomes in bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (BSSHL) patients. ⋯ Higher TBIL levels, within the normal or mildly elevated ranges, were independently and significantly associated with better hearing outcome in BSSHL patients with severe to profound hearing loss. Given bilirubin elevation treatments exist, our finding suggests a novel pharmacological strategy for this specific subpopulation.

To evaluate effectiveness of the cochlear implant (CI) to facilitate single-sided deafness (SSD) rehabilitation following translabyrinthine resection of the vestibular schwannoma. ⋯ Under certain conditions, CI was an effective solution to restore hearing in patients with SSD following translabyrinthine access to the skull base. Study with prospective design is required to provide more significant results.

Multicenter Study
Cross-cultural Adaption and Validation of the Zurich Chronic Middle Ear Inventory Translated Into Italian (ZCMEI-21-It)-a Prospective Multicenter Study.
There are no instruments available to comprehensively assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in chronic otitis media (COM) in Italian-speaking countries. The Zurich chronic middle ear inventory (ZCMEI-21) is a well-established instrument for the assessment of HRQoL in COM. The objective of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the ZCMEI-21 into Italian and validate this questionnaire for measuring HRQoL in patients with COM. ⋯ We translated the ZCMEI-21 questionnaire into Italian and validated the ZCMEI-21-It in a prospective multicenter study. The ZCMEI-21-It is the first instrument that comprehensively assesses relevant dimensions of HRQoL in Italian-speaking patients affected by COM.
