Stability, Survival, and Tolerability of an Auditory Osseointegrated Implant for Bone Conduction Hearing: Long-Term Follow-Up of a Randomized Controlled Trial.
To compare implant stability, survival, and soft tissue reactions for a novel (test) and previous generation (control) percutaneous auditory osseointegrated implant for bone conduction hearing at long-term follow-up of 5 years. ⋯ The test implant showed superiority in terms of higher mean ISQ values and less adverse soft tissue reactions, both at the single 5-year follow-up visit and during the complete follow-up. In addition, both implants showed an equally high implant survival.

Double-Blind Sham-Controlled Crossover Trial of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Mal de Debarquement Syndrome.
To determine whether the chronic rocking dizziness that occurs in Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) can be suppressed with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) beyond the treatment period. ⋯ Our study provides evidence that the dizziness, mood and anxiety symptoms of MdDS can be improved with 10 Hz rTMS over left DLPFC beyond the treatment period in selected individuals. rTMS may be a useful adjunctive treatment for the management of chronic rocking dizziness in individuals with MdDS but treatment durations longer than 5 days or maintenance treatment are likely needed for sustained symptom suppression.

Feasibility of auditory cortical stimulation for the treatment of tinnitus.
To investigate the feasibility and safety of an implantable epidural cortical stimulator for the treatment of severe tinnitus. ⋯ Chronic electrical stimulation of the secondary auditory cortex seems safe and warrants further investigation as a potential therapeutic intervention for the suppression of tinnitus.

Hemodilution therapy with hydroxyethyl starch solution (130/0.4) in unilateral idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss: a dose-finding, double-blind, placebo-controlled, international multicenter trial with 210 patients.
Obtain and analyze first data on hydroxyethyl starch (HES 130/0.4) as monotherapy in acute idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL). ⋯ All treatment groups were equivalent, including adverse treatment events. The secondary analysis showed that ISSNHL patients at risk for not improving under placebo (i.e., patients who started treatment more than 48 h after ISSNHL onset and/or with elevated RRsyst) recovered markedly better under infusions of HES 130/0.4.

Treatment of tinnitus with gabapentin: a pilot study.
To evaluate the effectiveness of gabapentin (Neurontin) improve the disease-specific quality of life in patients with moderate tinnitus. ⋯ There is insufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of gabapentin in the treatment of tinnitus.
