Comparative Study[Price differences between generic and innovator medicines in Brazil].
To assess the magnitude of price difference between generic and innovator medicines and to evaluate the effect of the price competition between them. ⋯ The introduction of generic medicines in the Brazilian pharmaceutical market contributed for offering cheaper medicines. However, the competition between generic and innovator medicines did not promote markdown of the majority innovator medicines.

[Effects of air pollution on children's health in a city in Southeastern Brazil].
Of the effects of air pollution on children's health, increased pneumonia admission rate is one of the most important. The study aimed at estimating the association between pneumonia admissions and increased air pollutants. ⋯ The study corroborates that adverse health effects of air pollutants can be observed even in medium-sized cities. The magnitude of the effect was similar to that found in the city of São Paulo. Moreover, children are highly susceptible to air pollution exposure.

To study the prevalence of premenstrual syndrome and the factors associated with this, by comparing the obtained frequency with the self-reported frequency. ⋯ A high prevalence of premenstrual syndrome was found. Even though the women's perception of the syndrome was higher than the result measured by the symptom score, one quarter of the women presented this health problem.

[Quality of birth care in maternity hospitals of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil].
To evaluate the quality of birth care based on the World Health Organization guidelines. ⋯ The two maternity hospitals have a high frequency of interventions during birth care. In spite of providing care to higher risk pregnant women, the public maternity hospital has a less interventionist profile than the private one. Procedures carried out on a routine basis should be pondered based on evidence of their benefits.
