The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial properties of oregano (Origanum heracleoticum L.) essential oil against clinical strains of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial activity of oregano essential oil was investigate against 2 tested and 20 clinical bacterial strains of Escherichia coli and 20 clinical strains o Pseudomonas aeruginosa come from patients with different clinical conditions. ⋯ The obtained outcomes will enable further investigations using oregano essential oil obtained from Origanum heracleoticum L. as alternative antibacterial remedies enhancing healing process in bacterial infections and as an effective means for the preventio of antibiotic-resistant strain development.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common etiologic agent of community-acquired respiratory infection. In serological diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infections tests have been described based on the purified P1 protein, which is the most important virulence factor of this pathogen, as antigen. The aim of his study was to express and purify a recombinant protein P1 M. pneumoniae and next evaluate this protein as high specific antigen in serodiagnosis of mycoplasmosis. ⋯ The present study confirmed the earlier observations of the high usefulness of recombinant P1 protein for reliable serologic diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infection.

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are the predominant mechanism for acquired antibiotic resistance in Enterobacteriaceae. During the past few years, increasing occurrence of plasmid-mediated AmpC beta-lactamases (pAmpCs) particularly in K. pneumonia, P. mirabilis and E. coli was reported. Therefore, the aim of our study was to analyse of the diversity of plasmid-mediated beta-lactamases such as pAmpCs and ESBLs among clinical K. pneumonia, P. mirabilis and E. coli strains in Poland. ⋯ Horizontal transfer of genes encoding for acquired beta-lactamases such ESBL and AmpC seem to play primary role in dissemination of these resistance traits among fluoroquinolone-resistant clinical strains of Enterobacteriaceae in Poland.
