Substance use disorders are multifaceted conditions influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Serotonergic pathways are known to be involved in substance use disorder susceptibility, with genetic markers within serotonin receptor genes identified as potential risk factors. ⋯ These findings suggest that genetic variants of human 5-HT receptor genes may affect individual susceptibility to SUD in Jordan. However, further studies with larger sample sizes and additional variants in the same or different genes must confirm these findings.

Bleeding from the affected organs is a common manifestation of amyloidosis. The risk for perioperative bleeding in patients with amyloidosis remains controversial. In this study, we aimed to compare the bleeding risk of tissue biopsies for a definitive diagnosis between patients with and without amyloidosis, identify risk factors, and generate a prediction model for bleeding risk in these patients. ⋯ Amyloidosis is not associated with an increased risk of bleeding in tissue biopsies. The KiHPL model can predict the bleeding risk of tissue biopsies for a definitive diagnosis in patients with suspected amyloidosis.

To prepare a polyglycolic acid-loaded mitomycin drug (MMC-ATS-@PLGA) to inhibit scar proliferation after glaucoma filtering surgery (GFS) via an anti-inflammatory mechanism that minimally affected intraocular pressure, which provided another therapeutic strategy for this disease. ⋯ We successfully synthesized MMC-ATS-@PLGA, which could effectively inhibit scar proliferation after GFS via anti-inflammatory effects but had little effect on intraocular pressure. This new type of nanomedicine has good biosafety and stability and is worthy of further exploration in clinical practice.

A novel uncapped mRNA platform was developed. ⋯ Our uncapped, process-simplified and economical mRNA platform may have broad utility in vaccines and protein replacement drugs.KEY MESSAGESThe mRNA platform described in our paper uses internal ribosome entry site (IRES) (Rapid, Amplified, Capless and Economical, RACE; Register as BH-RACE platform) instead of caps and uridine triphosphate (UTP) instead of N1-methylpseudouridine triphosphate (N1mψTP) to synthesize mRNA.Through the self-developed packaging instrument and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system, mRNA can be expressed in cells more efficiently, quickly and economically.Particularly exciting is that potent neutralizing antibodies against Delta and Omicron real viruses were induced with the new coronavirus S protein mRNA vaccine from the BH-RACE platform.

Despite surgical and intravesical chemotherapy interventions, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) poses a high risk of recurrence, which significantly impacts patient survival. Traditional clinical characteristics alone are inadequate for accurately assessing the risk of NMIBC recurrence, necessitating the development of novel predictive tools. ⋯ The established 8-gene signature holds promise as a tool for predicting NMIBC recurrence, while targeting SDCBP may represent a potential strategy for delaying disease relapse.
