The effect of coronal plane angulation on patient reported outcome measures of operatively treated distal femur fractures: A multi-center prospective evaluation.
The goal of this trial was to determine whether coronal plane angulation affects functional and clinical outcomes after the fixation of distal femur fractures. ⋯ Valgus angulation and neutral angulation may be better tolerated in terms of clinical outcomes like stair climbing and need for ambulatory support than varus angulation, though patient reported outcome measures like the SMFA, Bother Index and EQ-5D show no statistical significance. Most patients with distal femur fractures tend to improve during the first year after injury but many remain significantly affected at 12 months post injury.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyAnterolateral versus anteromedial plate osteosynthesis of midshaft humeral fractures; is there a difference in the rates of iatrogenic radial nerve palsy?
The anterolateral (AL) and anteromedial (AM) surfaces of the humerus are typically used for plate placement during plate osteosynthesis of midshaft humeral fractures via the anterolateral approach. The purpose of this study was to determine if a significant difference exists in the rates of iatrogenic radial nerve palsy (IRNP) following either AL or AM humeral fracture plating. The research question is stated as follows: is anteromedial plating of humeral fractures associated with lower rates of IRNP when compared with anterolateral plating? ⋯ This study found that (in contrast to previous studies) there was no significant difference in the rates of IRNP following either open anterolateral or anteromedial plate osteosynthesis of midshaft humeral fractures through the anterolateral approach. Orthopaedic surgeons should therefore remain cautious when obtaining consent for surgery as well as when performing internal fixation of midshaft humeral fractures to limit medicolegal disputes that may arise from IRNP.

Comparison of the efficacy and safety of transdermal buprenorphine patch to conventional analgesics after operative fixation of extra capsular fracture of proximal femur.
Proximal femur fractures are common among older individuals and pose challenges in achieving effective post-operative analgesia. Age-related co-morbidities limit the selection of analgesics in this population. This study aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of transdermal buprenorphine (TDB) patch with traditional analgesics after fixation of an extracapsular fracture of the proximal femur. ⋯ TDB patch is secure and offers better compliance and analgesia than other analgesics in the postoperative period whilst treating proximal femur extra capsular fracture.
