Multicenter Study Observational StudyVentilation in pediatric anesthesia: A French multicenter prospective observational study (PEDIAVENT).
Protective ventilation is now a standard of care in adults. However, management of ventilation is heterogeneous in children and little is known regarding the mechanical ventilation parameters actually used during pediatric anesthesia. ⋯ Ventilatory practices in children were heterogenous, and a large proportion of children were not ventilated as it is currently recommended by some experts.

Intraoperative mechanical ventilation practice in thoracic surgery patients and its association with postoperative pulmonary complications: results of a multicenter prospective observational study.
Intraoperative mechanical ventilation may influence postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). Current practice during thoracic surgery is not well described. ⋯ PPCs occurred frequently and prolonged hospital LOS following thoracic surgery. Proportionally large tidal volumes and high driving pressure were commonly used in this sub-population. However, large RCTs are needed to confirm these findings.

Multicenter StudyImpact of Serum Phosphate in Mechanically Ventilated Patients With Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock.
Hypo- and hyperphosphatemia are common in severe sepsis and septic shock. Published outcome data in patients with phosphate derangements primarily focus on hypophosphatemia and the general critically ill population. This study aimed to determine the impact of serum phosphate on clinical outcomes in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. ⋯ Time-weighted hyperphosphatemia may be associated with increased mortality in mechanically ventilated patients with severe sepsis or septic shock. However, time-weighted hypo- and hyperphosphatemia were associated with decreased duration of mechanical ventilation. Future studies should further describe the impact of hypo- and hyperphosphatemia on clinical outcomes among critically ill patients with severe sepsis or septic shock.

Intraoperative ventilator settings and their association with postoperative pulmonary complications in neurosurgical patients: post-hoc analysis of LAS VEGAS study.
Limited information is available regarding intraoperative ventilator settings and the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures. The aim of this post-hoc analysis of the 'Multicentre Local ASsessment of VEntilatory management during General Anaesthesia for Surgery' (LAS VEGAS) study was to examine the ventilator settings of patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures, and to explore the association between perioperative variables and the development of PPCs in neurosurgical patients. ⋯ Neurosurgical patients are ventilated with low VT and low PEEP, while recruitment manoeuvres are seldom applied. Intraoperative ventilator settings are not associated with PPCs.

Critical care nurses' perception of care coordination competency for management of mechanically ventilated patients.
To evaluate nurses' care coordination competency for mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units (ICUs) of Saudi Arabia (SA). ⋯ The results provide information on the status and gaps in ICU nurses' care coordination competencies to address the needs of mechanically ventilated critically ill patients. The NCCCS can be utilised as an educational tool for nurses who are new to the ICU work environment.
