Care Practices to Promote Patient Engagement in VA Primary Care: Factors Associated With High Performance.
Patient engagement has been broadly defined as the process of actively involving and supporting patients in health care and treatment decision making. The aim of this study was to identify organizational factors that are associated with greater use of patient engagement care practices in Veterans Health Administration primary care clinics. ⋯ Several desirable organizational and contextual factors were associated with high performance of patient engagement care practices. Strategies to improve the organizational functioning of primary care teams may enhance patient engagement in care.

Review Meta AnalysisPrinted educational materials: effects on professional practice and healthcare outcomes.
Printed educational materials are widely used dissemination strategies to improve the quality of healthcare professionals' practice and patient health outcomes. Traditionally they are presented in paper formats such as monographs, publication in peer-reviewed journals and clinical guidelines. This is the fourth update of the review. ⋯ The results of this review suggest that, when used alone and compared to no intervention, PEMs may slightly improve healthcare professionals' practice outcomes and patient health outcomes. The effectiveness of PEMs compared to other interventions, or of PEMs as part of a multifaceted intervention, is uncertain.

The Pennsylvania Respiratory Research Collaborative formed in January 2017 for the purpose of providing mentorship and opportunities to participate in statewide research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice projects. The inaugural project was designed to investigate and describe the practice of respiratory therapy in Pennsylvania. ⋯ The practice of respiratory therapy in the state of Pennsylvania varies greatly, with a small number of hospitals practicing at the top of their license. Additional research is needed to understand variations in practice.
