ReviewPatient Communication Preferences for Prostate Cancer Screening Discussions: A Scoping Review.
Prostate cancer screening guidelines have changed as new evidence showing an equivocal mortality benefit led many organizations to relax recommendations for this screening and instead suggest shared decision making. Presently, it is unknown how successfully these conversations happen. Our objective was to understand men's communication preferences when they discuss prostate cancer screening. ⋯ Our findings point to strategies to support men's communication preferences and address preconceptions surrounding prostate cancer screening. More studies are needed in certain underrepresented populations given the propensity for disparity in health outcomes.

After reading this review article, participants should be able to: Prepare the practice for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Understand options available to the practice for professional (practice-owned) and personal (patient-owned) CGM. Locate and interpret CGM data, using the ambulatory glucose profile (AGP), to determine if the patient is achieving targets established by the International Consensus on Time in Range. Modify a patient's treatment plan based on CGM data to improve patient outcomes.

ReviewPresence for racial justice: disrupting racism through physician-patient communication.
Context: Anti-Black racism is firmly rooted in US healthcare, but many clinicians do not have the tools and language to question their biases and address racism in clinical practice, eg biased communication practices such as "non-compliance" in medical documentation. Objective: Presence 5 for Racial Justice (P5RJ) leverages the Presence 5 patient-provider communication framework to identify anti-racism communication practices that support trusting relationships between physicians and Black patients and empower Black individuals in clinical care. Study design: For this multi-phased community-based participatory research (CBPR) overseen by an advisory board of clinicians and patients at four community clinics, we conducted a literature review, interviews with Black patients, clinician small-group discussions, and design thinking interviews with non-medical professionals. ⋯ Outcomes: Strategies on how providers, through communication and connection in the clinical visit, can navigate and address structural, institutional, and personally mediated forms of racism faced by Black patients. Results: P5RJ practices included: 1) Prepare with intention by reflecting on identity, bias, and power dynamics; and creating structures to address emergent bias and social determinants of health; 2) Listen intently and completely by using focused interpersonal listening without interruption and deep listening for racism impacts; give patients time and space to tell their story; 3) Agree on what matters most by having explicit conversations about patient goals, treatment comfort, consent, and referral planning; 4) Connect with the patient's story by acknowledging socio-political factors influencing patient health and focusing on positive efforts/events to encourage patient agency; 5) Explore emotional cues by noticing and naming patient emotions and considering how racial trauma might influence these emotions. Conclusion: P5RJ practices offer strategies to reflect on clinician biases, address racism and known gaps in care for Black patients and promote health equity in their clinical care.

ReviewContinuing education meetings and workshops: effects on professional practice and healthcare outcomes.
Educational meetings are used widely by health personnel to provide continuing medical education and to promote implementation of innovations or translate new knowledge to change practice within healthcare systems. Previous reviews have concluded that educational meetings can result in small changes in behaviour, but that effects vary considerably. Investigations into which characteristics of educational meetings might lead to greater impact have yielded varying results, and factors that might explain heterogeneity in effects remain unclear. This is the second update of this Cochrane Review. ⋯ Compared with no intervention, educational meetings as the main component of an intervention probably slightly improve professional practice and, to a lesser extent, patient outcomes. Educational meetings may improve compliance with desired practice to a greater extent than other kinds of behaviour change interventions, such as text messages, fees, or office systems. Our findings suggest that multi-strategy approaches might positively influence the effects of educational meetings. Additional trials of educational meetings compared with no intervention are unlikely to change the review findings; therefore we will not further update this review comparison in the future. However, we note that randomised trials comparing different types of education are needed.

Review Meta AnalysisPrinted educational materials: effects on professional practice and healthcare outcomes.
Printed educational materials are widely used dissemination strategies to improve the quality of healthcare professionals' practice and patient health outcomes. Traditionally they are presented in paper formats such as monographs, publication in peer-reviewed journals and clinical guidelines. This is the fourth update of the review. ⋯ The results of this review suggest that, when used alone and compared to no intervention, PEMs may slightly improve healthcare professionals' practice outcomes and patient health outcomes. The effectiveness of PEMs compared to other interventions, or of PEMs as part of a multifaceted intervention, is uncertain.
