Multicenter Study Observational Study[Adaptation and validation of CAMDEX-DS (Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of Older People with Down's Syndrome and others with intellectual disabilities) in Spanish population with intellectual disabilities].
Dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease commonly affects the adult population with Down's syndrome. This population presents two characteristic clinical features: a semiologic pattern that differs from the typical Alzheimer's disease, and previous intellectual deficits that may confound the clinical diagnosis. There is a clear need to validate specific instruments adapted to Spanish population. ⋯ The Spanish version of CAMDEX-DS is a valid instrument with high applicability for people with intellectual disability. It shows good psychometric properties. The Cambridge Cognitive Examination for Older Adults with Down's Syndrome (CAMCOG-DS) can set two key points by the level of intellectual disability on the suspicion of cognitive impairment in people with Down's syndrome.

Multicenter StudyCurrent status of emergency airway management for elderly patients in Korea: Multicentre study using the Korean Emergency Airway Management Registry.
We report the current status of emergency airway management in elderly Korean patients by analysing a multicentre registry database in order to provide quality emergency airway management to elderly patients. ⋯ Similar success and complication rates were found for emergency airway management in elderly patients compared with patients aged less than 65 years.

Trauma centre outcome performance: a comparison of young adults and geriatric patients in an inclusive trauma system.
Elderly trauma patients represent a unique clientele requiring specialised care but they rarely benefit from standardised care strategies within trauma systems. We aimed to evaluate whether trauma centres with lower/higher than expected mortality amongst patients <65 years of age have similar results for geriatric patients. A secondary objective was to compare transfer to level I/II trauma centres across age groups. ⋯ Trauma centres that have low risk-adjusted mortality for young adults do not necessarily do so for geriatric patients. In addition, geriatric patients with severe head injuries are less likely to be treated in neurosurgical trauma centres. Further research is needed to identify determinants of inter-hospital variation in outcome for geriatric trauma patients.

Capecitabine in combination with oxaliplatin or irinotecan in elderly patients with advanced colorectal cancer: results of a randomized phase II study.
To determine the efficacy and tolerability of capecitabine combined with oxaliplatin (CAPOX) or irinotecan (CAPIRI) as first-line treatment in patients with advanced/metastatic colorectal cancer aged > or =70 years. ⋯ CAPOX and CAPIRI had similar efficacy in elderly patients, although CAPOX seemed to be better tolerated.

Pain prevalence and characteristics in three Dutch residential homes.
In Anglo-Saxon countries, high prevalence rates of pain have been reported for elderly living in nursing homes, residential homes and for community-dwelling elderly. No information on pain prevalence is available for elderly living in Dutch residential homes. ⋯ The pain prevalence rate in Dutch residential homes is similar to rates found in other Anglo-Saxon countries. Furthermore, they are also comparable to rates reported from European nursing homes. Pain treatment is insufficient and although pain interferes with daily activities and mood, elderly tend to accept pain as an unavoidable part of aging.
