Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Long-term survival in older patients given propofol or sevoflurane anaesthesia for major cancer surgery: follow-up of a multicentre randomised trial.
Experimental evidence indicates that i.v. anaesthesia might reduce cancer recurrence compared with volatile anaesthesia, but clinical information is observational only. We therefore tested the primary hypothesis that propofol-based anaesthesia improves survival over 3 or more years after potentially curative major cancer surgery. ⋯ ChiCTR-IPR-15006209; NCT02660411.

Effect of intraoperative dexmedetomidine on long-term survival in older patients after major noncardiac surgery: 3-year follow-up of a randomized trial.
To assess the impact of intraoperative dexmedetomidine on long-term outcomes of older patients following major noncardiac surgery mainly for cancer. ⋯ In older patients having major noncardiac surgery mainly for cancer, intraoperative dexmedetomidine did not improve overall survival but was associated with improved recurrence-free and event-free survivals.

Randomized Controlled TrialHealth TAPESTRY Ontario: A Multi-Site Randomized Controlled Trial Testing Implementation and Reproducibility.
Health Teams Advancing Patient Experience: Strengthening Quality (Health TAPESTRY) is a complex primary care program aimed at assisting older adults to stay healthier for longer. This study evaluated the feasibility of implementation across multiple sites, and the reproducibility of the effects found in the previous randomized controlled trial. ⋯ We found Health TAPESTRY was successfully implemented for patients in diverse primary care practices; however, implementation did not reproduce the effect on hospitalizations and physical activity found in the initial randomized controlled trial.

Effect of Different Frequencies of Electroacupuncture on Chronic Low Back Pain in Older Adults: A Triple-blind, Placebo-controlled, Randomized Clinical Trial.
Acupuncture is one of the most widely used therapies to treat chronic low back pain, whose analgesic effect seems to be potentiated by the addition of electric current (electroacupuncture). However, we are not aware of any clinical trial that has evaluated the effectiveness of this technique in adults > 65 years. ⋯ This study provides evidence that there is no one frequency of electroacupuncture that is most effective in treating chronic low back pain in the elderly and that electroacupuncture is not superior to manual acupuncture or placebo treatment.
