The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of annual trauma patient volume on outcomes for emergency medical services (EMS) agencies. ⋯ A higher volume of trauma patients transported at the EMS agency level is associated with improved early mortality. Further investigation of this volume-outcome relationship is necessary to leverage quality improvement, benchmarking, and educational initiatives.

Simulation in Anesthesia for Perioperative Neuroscience: Present and Future.
The brain's sensitivity to fluctuations in physiological parameters demands precise control of anesthesia during neurosurgery, which, combined with the complex nature of neurosurgical procedures and potential for adverse outcomes, makes neuroanesthesia challenging. Neuroanesthesiologists, as perioperative physicians, work closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurointensivists, and neuroradiologists to provide care for patients with complex neurological diseases, often dealing with life-threatening conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, and spinal cord injuries. ⋯ Simulation models, including high-fidelity manikins, virtual reality, and computer-based simulations, can replicate physiological responses, anatomical structures, and complications associated with neurosurgical procedures. The use of high-fidelity simulation can act as a valuable complement to real-life clinical exposure and training in neuroanesthesia.

Pain catastrophizing has been shown to be a prognostic indicator for pain severity and the co-occurrence of mental health conditions such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder after whiplash injury. However, the pattern of available findings is limited in its implications for the possible "antecedent" or "causal" role of pain catastrophizing. The purpose of the present study was to examine the temporal relations between pain catastrophizing, pain severity, depressive symptoms, and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in individuals receiving treatment for whiplash injury. ⋯ Findings support the view that pain catastrophizing might play a transdiagnostic role in the onset and maintenance of health and mental health conditions. The findings call for greater emphasis on the development of treatment techniques that target pain catastrophizing in intervention programs for whiplash injury.

ReviewChopart dislocations: a review of diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.
Chopart injuries can be allocated into 4 broad groups, ligamentous injury with or without dislocation and fracture with or without dislocation, which must occur at the talonavicular joint (TNJ) and/or calcaneocuboid joint (CCJ). Chopart dislocations are comprised of pure-dislocations and fracture-dislocations. We aim to review the literature, to enable evidence-based recommendations. ⋯ Chopart dislocations are a complex heterogenous midfoot injury with historically poor outcomes. There is a relative paucity of research discussing these injuries. We have offered evidence-based recommendations related to the clinical and surgical management of these rare pathologies.
