Review Meta AnalysisReview article: Electronic screening and brief intervention for alcohol-related trauma: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Electronic Screening and Brief Intervention (e-SBI) in changing or reducing alcohol consumption and/or related risk behaviours among trauma patients compared to standard of care. Following Cochrane Collaboration's guidelines and PRISMA recommendations, a search of electronic databases (MEDLINE via PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science) and grey literature (Google Scholar) was conducted. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from 1995 to 2023 were included, focusing on e-SBI for alcohol misuse in trauma patients. ⋯ However, uncertainties and methodological variations highlight the need for standardised outcome measurements, consistent reporting and further exploration of e-SBI's long-term impact. Relevance to health promotion: Understanding the effectiveness of e-SBI in managing alcohol-related issues among trauma patients is crucial for health promotion. Despite uncertainties, the findings underscore the potential of e-SBI as a scalable and accessible intervention. e-SBI in the setting of the present study, emphasises the importance of tailored approaches in public health strategies.

Is the Use of Tourniquets More Advantageous than Other Bleeding Control Techniques in Patients with Limb Hemorrhage? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and Objectives: Trauma, particularly uncontrolled bleeding, is a major cause of death. Recent evidence-based guidelines recommend the use of a tourniquet when life-threating limb bleeding cannot be controlled with direct pressure. Prehospital hemorrhage management, according to the XABCDE protocol, emphasizes the critical role of tourniquets in controlling massive bleeding. ⋯ Tourniquet use demonstrated a non-significant reduction in the number of blood components transfused (MD = -0.65; 95% CI -5.23 to 3.93 for pRBC, MD = -0.55; 95% CI -4.06 to 2.97 for plasma). Conclusions: Despite increasing use in civilian settings, this systematic review and meta-analysis showed no significant reduction in mortality or blood product use associated with prehospital tourniquet use. Further research, including high-quality randomized controlled trials, is required, as well as awareness and education campaigns relating to proper tourniquet use in the prehospital setting.

Review Meta AnalysisBenefits of targeted deployment of physician-led interprofessional pre-hospital teams on the care of critically Ill and injured patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Over the past three decades, more advanced pre-hospital systems have increasingly integrated physicians into targeted roles, forming interprofessional teams. These teams focus on providing early senior decision-making and advanced interventions while also ensuring rapid transport to hospitals based on individual patient needs. This paper aims to evaluate the benefits of an inter-professional care model compared to a model where care is delivered solely by paramedics. ⋯ The results of our analysis indicate that the targeted deployment of interprofessional teams led by physicians in the pre-hospital care of critically ill or injured patients improves patient outcomes.

Incidence and Risk Factors of Delayed Intracranial Hemorrhage in Anticoagulated Head Trauma Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
This study aims to provide a current and comprehensive analysis of the incidence of delayed intracerebral hemorrhage (dICH) in head trauma patients on oral anticoagulants (ACs) and to evaluate various potential risk factors. ⋯ A low incidence of dICH requires neurosurgical intervention; however, further studies are required to assess the need for other medical management in these patients. Furthermore, selective imaging for high-risk patients could improve care and resource allocation.

Review Meta AnalysisContrast-enhanced CT scan (CECT) for the detection of hollow viscus and mesenteric injuries in blunt trauma - an updated systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy.
Despite improved awareness of blunt traumatic hollow viscus and mesenteric injuries (THVMI), the accuracy of contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) varies considerably among studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis of test accuracy aims to explore the diagnostic performance of CECT in detecting THVMI in blunt trauma. ⋯ CECT has a fundamental role in identifying THVMI with high specificity but suboptimal sensitivity. Clinical criteria are still of paramount importance, especially in cases of ambiguous initial CECT images.
