ReviewThe Use and Impact of Diaries in PICUs and Neonatal ICUs: A Scoping Review.
Several studies have investigated the impact of diaries in adult ICUs, which have been used as a tool to support recall and reduce post-traumatic stress disorder in patients and their families. We conducted a scoping review to determine the definition of ICU diaries, and the extent, range, and nature of research conducted on NICU and PICU diaries, describe their use and impact, as well as identify gaps in knowledge and areas for future research. ⋯ There is a paucity of data on the use of NICU and PICU diaries. Nonetheless, the limited data revealed that NICU and PICU diaries were beneficial to children and their families. Our review demonstrated a heterogeneity in the terminology, content, use of photos, and the author/s of the NICU and PICU diaries. Further research is needed to investigate the impact of the use of NICU and PICU diaries on patient-reported outcomes.

ReviewReview article: Early steroid administration for traumatic haemorrhagic shock: A systematic review.
Haemorrhagic shock after trauma is a leading cause of death worldwide, particularly in young individuals. Despite advances in trauma systems and resuscitation strategies, mortality from haemorrhagic shock has not declined over the previous two decades. A proportion of shocked trauma patients may experience a deficiency of cortisol relative to the severity of their injury. ⋯ Both studies were at risk of bias. There are no high quality or recent studies in the English literature investigating the use of steroids for haemorrhagic shocked trauma patients. PROSPERO: CRD42021239656.

Obesity and outcomes in trauma - a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The physiological abnormalities relating to obesity and metabolic syndrome can contribute to worse outcomes following trauma especially in class 2 and 3 obesity. The aim of this systematic review was to determine whether patients with a higher class of obesity who suffer traumatic injury have a higher risk of worse outcomes including in-hospital mortality than normal-weight patients. ⋯ There is a higher risk of in-hospital mortality in patients living with class 3 obesity following trauma when compared with individuals with normal BMI. The management of patients with obesity is complex and trauma systems should develop specific weight related pathways to manage and anticipate the complications that arise in these patients. Systematic review registration number PROSPERO registration: CRD42021234482 Level of Evidence: Level 3.

Traumatic injuries are amongst the leading causes of death and disability in the world across all age groups. This systematic review aimed to (1) describe the role of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) on the development of chronic pain and/or pain-related disability following musculoskeletal trauma and (2) report pain and or pain-related disability by injury severity/type. ⋯ CRD42021285243.

Taser was introduced into UK policing in 2003 to bridge the operational gap between use of incapacitant sprays and firearms. Use of force reporting in the UK indicates that Taser is relatively safe provided that it is used lawfully. ⋯ The TASER 7 uses a novel probe that has implications for the medical community. A review of Taser medical effects and probe removal for TASER 7 are presented.
