Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial[Dexamethasone enhances the effect of tropisetron and ondansetron against nausea and vomiting against nausea and vomiting after patient-controlled analgesia].
To study the enhancement by dexamethasone of the effect of ondansetron and tropiesetron against postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients receiving patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) and observe the effect of dexamethasone on wound healing. ⋯ Dexamethasone (10 mg) can greatly enhance the effect of ondansetron and tropiesetron against PONV in patients receiving PCA without interfering the healing of the wound.

Spine deformity surgery is a painful procedure in which pain control is difficult to obtain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of double epidural catheters in this setting. ⋯ Postoperative epidural analgesia by means of a double catheter is an effective technique to control pain after spine deformity surgery and is associated with a low incidence of side-effects.

This survey investigated the common practice of obstetric analgesia and anaesthesia in Swiss hospitals and evaluated the influence of the Swiss interest group for obstetric anaesthesia. ⋯ Regional anaesthesia was most commonly used for obstetric anaesthesia in Swiss hospitals. Epidemiological studies, recommendations of the Swiss interest group for obstetric anaesthesia, as well as the expectations of pregnant women, increased the numbers of regional anaesthesia compared with the first survey in 1992.
