Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyCerebral Oxygen Saturation to Guide Oxygen Delivery in Preterm Neonates for the Immediate Transition after Birth: A 2-Center Randomized Controlled Pilot Feasibility Trial.
To assess if monitoring of cerebral regional tissue oxygen saturation (crSO2) using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to guide respiratory and supplemental oxygen support reduces burden of cerebral hypoxia and hyperoxia in preterm neonates during resuscitation after birth. ⋯ Reduction of burden of cerebral hypoxia during immediate transition and resuscitation after birth is feasible by crSO2 monitoring to guide respiratory and supplemental oxygen support.

Capnographic monitoring of midazolam and propofol sedation during ERCP: a randomized controlled study (EndoBreath Study).
This was to determine whether intervention based on additional capnographic monitoring reduces the incidence of hypoxemia during midazolam and propofol sedation for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). ⋯ Intention-to-treat analysis showed hypoxemia incidence was not significantly lower in the additional capnography arm compared with standard monitoring. Additional capnographic monitoring of ventilatory activity resulted in improved detection of apnea.

Patient position and hypoxemia during propofol sedation for colonoscopy: a randomized trial.
To evaluate the benefits of the left lateral position in avoiding hypoxemic events in patients undergoing colonoscopy. ⋯ The positioning of patients in the left lateral position during propofol sedation for colonoscopy results in lower desaturation rates provided the position can be maintained throughout endoscopy. Preoperative mannitol infusion improves perioperative cerebral oxygen saturation and enhances postoperative recovery after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
To test the effect of preoperative mannitol infusion on perioperative decreased cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Preoperative mannitol infusion maintains perioperative rSO2 during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and shortens extubation time with earlier resurgence of OAAS.

Walking with Non-Invasive Ventilation Does Not Prevent Exercise-Induced Hypoxaemia in Stable Hypercapnic COPD Patients.
Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) in addition to supplemental oxygen improves arterial oxygenation, walking distance and dyspnea when applied during exercise in stable hypercapnic COPD patients. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether NPPV without supplemental oxygen is capable of preventing severe exercise-induced hypoxemia in these patients when applied during walking. ⋯ The use of NPPV during walking without the application of supplemental oxygen does not prevent exercise-induced hypoxemia in patients with stable hypercapnic COPD.
