Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) is a common postoperative complication including postoperative delirium (POD), postoperative cognitive decline (POCD) or delayed neurocognitive recovery. It is still controversial whether the use of intraoperative cerebral function monitoring can decrease the incidence of PND. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different cerebral function monitoring (electroencephalography (EEG) and regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) monitoring) on PND based on the data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ The findings in the present study indicated that intraoperative use of EEG or/and rSO2 monitor could decrease the risk of PND.

Microvascular decompression (MVD) is the surgical treatment of choice for hemifacial spasm (HFS). During MVD, monitoring of the abnormal lateral spread response (LSR), an evoked response to facial nerve stimulation, has been traditionally used to monitor adequacy of cranial nerve (CN) VII decompression. ⋯ Intraoperative LSR monitoring has high specificity but modest sensitivity in predicting the spasm-free status following MVD. Persistence of LSR carries high risk for immediate and long-term facial spasm persistence. Therefore, adequacy of decompression should be thoroughly investigated before closing in cases where intraoperative LSR persists.

There is a lack of consensus regarding the prognostic value of tumor architecture (sessile vs. papillary) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) treated with radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). The aim of the present study was to analyze the current evidence regarding the prognostic role of tumor architecture in patients undergoing RNU for UTUC through a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ Sessile tumor architecture correlates with a significantly worse survival outcome compared with papillary tumor architecture, and it can be used as a valuable biomarker for monitoring prognoses of UTUC patients.

Finger-cuff derived blood pressure & CO/CI measurement shows some accuracy when compared with invasive methods, however too much heterogeneity exists among studies for it to be reliably interchangeable.
