Analgesic efficacy of nitrous oxide in adults in the emergency department: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Nitrous oxide (N2O) has a rapidly analgesic effect, but evidence regarding its role in managing pain in adults in the emergency department (ED) is conflicting. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to investigate the analgesic efficacy and safety of N2O in adults in ED. ⋯ The present meta-analysis suggested that N2O could provide better analgesia than placebo and similar analgesia to other methods with more vomiting and dizziness in adults in ED.

The performance of HEAR score for identification of low-risk chest pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Chest pain is one of the most common presentations to the emergency department (ED) and HEART score (history, ECG, age, risk factors, and cardiac troponin) is recommended for risk stratification. It has been proposed that the sum of four items with no troponin (HEAR score) below 2 can be used safely to lower testing and reduce length of stay. To assess the performance of the HEAR score in hospital and prehospital settings, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ This study showed that in the ED, the HEAR score<2 can be used for an early discharge strategy. Currently, this score cannot be recommended in prehospital setting. Prospero (CRD42021273710).

Efficacy of Brief Intervention for Unhealthy Drug Use in Outpatient Medical Care: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
The efficacy of brief intervention (BI) for unhealthy drug use in outpatient medical care has not been sufficiently substantiated through meta-analysis despite its ongoing global delivery. This study aims to determine the efficacy of BI for unhealthy drug use and the expected length of effects, and describe subgroup analyses by outpatient setting. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42020157733).

Diagnostic Accuracy of Ischemia-Modified Albumin for Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The diagnostic usefulness of ischemia-modified albumin in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) has been questioned. The goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to see how accurate ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) was in diagnosing ACS in patients admitted to emergency departments (EDs). We searched for relevant literature in databases such as MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library. ⋯ Furthermore, ACS patients with unstable angina had greater serum IMA levels than those with non-ischemic chest pain. In contrast to prior meta-analyses, our findings suggest that determining whether serum IMA levels are effective for diagnosing ACS in the emergency department is difficult. However, the accuracy of these findings cannot be ascertained due to high heterogeneity between studies.

Impact of Pharmacist-Led Antimicrobial Stewardship on Appropriate Antibiotic Prescribing in the Emergency Department: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of pharmacist presence or pharmacist-led antimicrobial stewardship interventions on appropriate prescribing of antibiotics in the emergency department (ED). ⋯ Pharmacist presence and pharmacist-led antimicrobial stewardship interventions appear to be effective for the appropriate prescribing of antibiotics in adult patients presenting to EDs with a variety of infectious syndromes.
