Comparative Study Clinical TrialSurgical hand antisepsis in veterinary practice: evaluation of soap scrubs and alcohol based rub techniques.
Recent studies have shown that hydro-alcoholic solutions are more efficient than traditional medicated soaps in the pre-surgical hand antisepsis of human surgeons but there is little veterinary literature on the subject. The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of medicated soaps and a hydro-alcoholic solution prior to surgery using an in-use testing method in a veterinary setting. A preliminary trial was performed that compared the mean log(10) number of bacterial colony forming units (CFU) and the reduction factors (RF) between two 5-min hand-scrubbing sessions using different soaps, namely, povidone iodine (PVP) and chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX), and the 1.5-min application of a hydro-alcoholic rub. ⋯ Sampling was performed using finger printing on agar plates. The hydro-alcoholic rub and CHX had a similar immediate effect, although the sustained effect was significantly better for the hydro-alcoholic rub, while PVP had a significantly lower immediate and sustained effect. The hydro-alcoholic rub showed good efficiency in the clinical trial and could be considered as a useful alternative method for veterinary surgical hand antisepsis.

Randomized Controlled Trial[The comparison of computer assisted minimally invasive spine surgery and traditional open treatment for thoracolumbar fractures].
To compare the clinical results between computer assisted minimally invasive spine surgery (CAMISS) and traditional open fixation surgery which used in thoracolumbar fractures. ⋯ CAMISS has the characteristics of fewer traumas, less bleeding, faster recovery, high accuracy of pedicle screws. It has comparable vertebral deformity correction and fixation result of the traditional open operation.

Implant removal associated complications in children with limb fractures due to trauma.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the number and type of complications that occurred after fracture implant removal and to investigate whether implant removal should be performed routinely in children. ⋯ The removal of K-wires, ESIN, and screws is considered to be a safe procedure in children and is, by definition, indicated for K-wires and ESIN after fracture healing.

To evaluate the overall accuracy and time spent on biopsy guided by electromagnetic needle tracking in a phantom compared with the standard technique of US-guided biopsy with an attached steering device. Furthermore, to evaluate off-plane biopsy guided by needle tracking. ⋯ Needle navigation is a potentially valuable tool for image-guided biopsy with an equal rate of success compared with conventional image-guided biopsy. Furthermore, it enables off-plane image-guided biopsy.

Arthroscopy of the shoulder is a well-established diagnostic procedure which has widespread application. Advances in technology and the search for more minimal invasive surgery will always offer new techniques in any surgical field. Robotic technology is such an advance, offering technical advantages over standard laparoscopic approaches. The aim of the present study is to test whether robotic surgery can be used while performing shoulder arthroscopy or not. ⋯ Robotic shoulder arthroscopy seems feasible in a cadaveric model but has some significant limitations at this time. A clinical application could be performed as diagnostic arthroscopy and as simple arthroscopic surgery until more specific instrumentation is developed. It may also enable the surgeon to perform more complex and precise tasks in restricted spaces.
